Chapter 433: 429, you should be clear about what to do next
Linda helped Titus Zane support Wesley Foley back to his apartment; once settled, they left the room one after the other.
"You know what to do next, don’t you?"
Linda stood in the center of the living room, arms crossed over her chest, looking down at Titus Zane like a high and mighty ruler.
Titus Zane paused, one hand still on the doorknob, not quite understanding her meaning.
"Leave. Go find a hotel to take you in for the night, now."
"But he..."
"This time, I’m the lead, and you’re just my assistant!"
Linda’s cold reminder carried a sharpness, her piercing eyes exuding a commanding presence that could not be defied.
Titus Zane pursed his lips, let go of the doorknob, lowered his gaze, and nodded faintly, "Okay."
Then he took his bag, stepped out of the apartment, and left the space for Linda.
Looking at the closed door of the apartment, Linda scoffed coldly and walked towards Wesley Foley’s room.
Sitting in the taxi, Titus Zane gazed vacantly at the night scenery outside the window, until the car stopped at a hotel entrance, where he regained his composure, paid the fare, got off, and walked straight into the hotel lobby.
He booked a standard room and without even taking off his coat, made a call to Sister Hua.
"Sister Hua, I’m sorry for calling you so early and disturbing your rest,"
"Carry, what’s the matter?"
Titus Zane realized that Sister Hua now seemed to have even spared the pretense of concern, but that was fine; he didn’t need to beat around the bush either.
"Mm, I was hoping to discuss something with you. I want to drop out of this task."
After a brief silence, Sister Hua’s voice came on again, "That’s fine. Linda is too strong-willed; having an assistant might just backfire."
With his phone pressed against his ear, Titus Zane didn’t speak, only listening as Sister Hua continued, "Then you should resign. Let Linda handle the rest of the matter by herself."
"Okay," Titus Zane didn’t expect Sister Hua to agree so readily, "I’ll withdraw as soon as possible."
"There’s nothing else, I’m going to hang up now, need to catch up on sleep."
Once she said that, without waiting for Titus Zane to say goodbye, Sister Hua hung up.
Listening to the busy tone on the receiver, Titus Zane chuckled softly, thinking that this must be the so-called fickleness of human relationships.
...
The next day, as soon as he arrived at the company, he was called into Director Foley’s office.
"Director Foley, did you need something from me?" Standing three meters away from the desk, Titus Zane’s expression was calm, showing no sign of discomfort.
"What was so urgent yesterday?"
Leaning back in the executive chair, Wesley Foley had his arms folded in front of his chest, his handsome brows furrowed, his face not looking too happy.
Titus Zane...
He knew in his heart; surely Linda told them he had left in a hurry due to an emergency...
His smile lifting at the corners, "A friend had some trouble, so... I went to lend a hand."
"You have friends in Banyan City?" Wesley Foley’s brow furrowed even deeper, his sharp eyes narrowed, examining Titus Zane intensely.
"My friend isn’t in Banyan City; they are out of town, which is why... It’s even more troublesome."
"So you left me, a drunken man, in the care of a stranger to solve a friend’s problem?" Wesley Foley’s questioning tone was clear, obviously unhappy that Titus Zane had left him in Linda’s care the night before.
Especially since he woke up in the morning to find himself wearing only boxer shorts.
Titus Zane had never seen Wesley Foley be so harsh with him before; even when upset in the past, he would just be cold, not overtly angry as he was now.
Lowering his gaze, Titus Zane pursed his lips, "I’m sorry, Director Foley, I didn’t think it through, I failed in my responsibility, you... should punish me."
Watching her, Wesley Foley didn’t speak, a normally suave man, now looking alarmingly stern once his temper was roused.
