Chapter 429: 425, Became a substitute
Feeling gloomy, Titus Zane actually overlooked the fact that it was already past midnight in the United States, until Beatrice Hargrave’s voice came through the phone, accompanied by a yawn, as she asked, "Carry, have you run into some trouble? Why are you calling me so late?"
Titus Zane suddenly realized her mistake and mumbled, "No," but then spoke up again just as Beatrice Hargrave was about to hang up and continue resting.
"Beatrice Hargrave, was it you who sent Linda over?"
Without any hesitation, Beatrice Hargrave frankly admitted, "Yes, Carry, is there a problem?"
Caught off guard by Beatrice Hargrave’s direct question, Titus Zane was momentarily stunned, but then forced a smile and denied, "No, Beatrice Hargrave, I won’t bother you any longer, please continue resting."
"Hmm, make sure you cooperate with Linda," Beatrice Hargrave instructed before hanging up the phone.
Titus Zane...
The phone was pressed against her ear, and she did not move for a long time.
What Beatrice Hargrave had just said... to cooperate with Linda’s work, could it be... she would become a "body double" like Xiaoman had?
This thought suddenly made Titus Zane feel a chill on her back, a coldness that seemed to creep out from the bottom of her heart.
She had always believed that Beatrice Hargrave cared for them deeply and kindly, but it turned out that in Beatrice Hargrave’s eyes, they were all the same, nothing more than... tools to make money.
The more she thought about it, the colder her heart felt. As she was lost in her thoughts, the phone pressed to her ear rang abruptly again, startling Titus Zane into thinking it was Beatrice Hargrave calling, and she fumbled to answer the call.
What reached her ears, however, was Beatrice Hargrave’s voice.
"Hello, Sister Zane!"
The voice was very cheerful. There were many times when Titus Zane envied how, despite her hardships, Beatrice Hargrave always seemed happy and joyful.
"Haven’t seen you for over a month, did you miss me?"
"Of course, I did." Titus Zane snapped back to reality, possibly influenced by Beatrice Hargrave’s enthusiasm, and she spoke with a lifted corner in her smile.
"Beatrice Hargrave, what are you up to now? Filming or singing?"
"Sister Zane, didn’t Uncle Nathan tell you?" Beatrice Hargrave asked, puzzled. Mentioning Nathan Moore made Titus Zane feel a bit guilty, causing her speech to stutter.
"What, what?"
"I’m going on a national tour next week, and the first stop is at the Banyan City Stadium!"
"Oh, is that so? Congratulations." Titus Zane’s response was clearly nonchalant, as the thought of Nathan Moore, whom she hadn’t seen since that incident, suddenly crossed her mind.
She had said her goodbyes with determination, but with Nathan Moore’s absence, she felt a vague sense of loss.
"Sister Zane, I didn’t call just to hear your well wishes."
"Then what is it?" Today Titus Zane’s mental reflexes seemed unusually slow, "It’s my first life tour, and for such an exciting event, of course, I have to invite my best friends to support me! So, I’ve reserved a VIP seat for you, make sure you come to my concert!"
"Sure, I definitely will."
After asking Beatrice Hargrave about the specific time of the Banyan City concert and chatting for a bit, Titus Zane hung up. It was only after hanging up that she remembered that she had forgotten to ask Beatrice Hargrave whether Nathan Moore had returned to T City.
Thinking about calling back, she hesitated and decided against it; after all, since she had decided not to meet him again, Nathan Moore’s coming and going were irrelevant to her.
Putting away her phone, Titus Zane turned to her computer and started typing on the keyboard.
In no time, a printed letter of resignation came out of the copy machine. Holding the letter, she opened the door to her office and headed straight to the CEO’s office.
With three days left until Beatrice Hargrave’s concert, Titus Zane planned to leave after watching it.
