Chapter 381: Chapter 239 Borrowing a Gun to Kill (Monthly Ticket Bonus)_1

Conference room.

The woman extended her hand to the approaching Dean. "Hello, I’m Krami..."

Dean reached out, cutting off her next words. "I’m not interested in who you are, nor am I interested in why you’re here. Produce the letter of authorization, and you can see Pyle."

Krami narrowed her eyes and actually took out a document from her briefcase. "This is a power of attorney signed by Pyle!"

Dean glanced over it casually, shaking his head. "The document’s real, but the signature is fake."

With that, he waved to Harry. "Take this... um, Ms. Krami, away for questioning. I want to know her purpose in disguising herself as a murder suspect’s lawyer and attempting to approach him!"

Krami laughed in exasperation. She hadn’t expected to encounter such a shameless detective upon her arrival!

SMACK!

Krami slammed the document onto the conference room table. "Detective, I must remind you, you..."

"SHHH~" Dean put a finger to his lips, gesturing for the woman to be quiet. "Firstly, I’m the Chief Inspector of the Homicide Division. You must respect my position and address me as Chief Inspector Dean! Secondly, if you believe my dismissal of the signature’s authenticity without verification is problematic, you can file a complaint. Of course, I won’t tell you that the head of Internal Affairs, who handles complaints, is my old boss."

Krami was speechless.

With such a brazen attitude, this handsome man before her had all the makings of a great lawyer. It was a waste for him to be a detective.

She took a few deep breaths. Under Harry’s predatory gaze, she tried to retrieve the document and figure out how to handle this sudden turn of events.

But Harry was quicker, snatching the document away. "Ma’am, I apologize, but this is evidence. I suspect you of forging documents to contact the suspect and convey certain information. For security reasons, you are now subject to lawful interrogation. You have the right..."

Leaving Harry to deal with the woman, Dean took Carlo outside the office and instructed, "Carlo, I have a task for you!"

Carlo stood at attention. "Consider it done, sir!"

"Take Hawk and a few more men. Find that young man named Dayev and his parents. Arrest them on charges of drug trafficking and bring them to the station!"

Carlo was taken aback. "Boss, do you suspect Dayev is the third participant?"

Previously, in Forensics, Holz had said that Dayev’s fingerprints were on the drug packaging found at the victim’s home. That guy was probably helping the victim’s family smuggle drugs in, which the family would then process into lower-purity narcotics for sale.

Dean shook his head. "I suspect Dayev’s parents!"

With the aim of cultivating his subordinate’s reasoning skills, Dean organized his thoughts before explaining, "Carlo, Dayev is only eighteen. But Holz mentioned he has multiple records of drug rehabilitation and trafficking. At that age, it’s difficult to comprehend the future impact of drugs. Family intervention must have been involved for Dayev to attempt rehab voluntarily. However, once someone is hooked on drugs, they’re essentially on the verge of relapse for life! The reasons for this, aside from physical addiction, primarily stem from psychological dependence. For long-term drug users, even if they physically overcome the addiction, their senses are already altered, different from a normal person’s. Apart from increasingly potent drugs, they struggle to find stimulation, excitement, or happiness from other sources. The slightest inducement can make such individuals extremely prone to relapse. And yet, the victim’s family needed an impressionable young man like Dayev to help transport drugs. If you were in their shoes, would you let cheap labor slip from your grasp so easily?"

Carlo shook his head. "I understand, Boss. You suspect the victim’s family, unwilling to lose Dayev as a known and reliable courier, caused his repeated relapses, which angered Dayev’s family."

Dean nodded. "Not too slow. Get to it!"

Watching Carlo leave, Dean lit a cigarette, his mind already planning the next move.

He wanted to gain Experience Points from solving the case but didn’t want to waste too much time on this particular one. The best approach was to pick them off one by one and, in the process, eliminate the most troublesome lawyer—Krami. Interrupting her rhythm was just a minor tactic. His real objective was to constrain Krami’s location and time, then ensure she met her demise due to her own fatal oversight regarding human nature. This was Dean’s current modus operandi: use intellect against mindless brutes, and guns against the intelligent ones. Efficient and convenient. A dimensionality reduction attack.

Snuffing out the cigarette, Dean went directly to the rudimentary temporary cell where the pedophile Pyle was being held. This place was generally used as a transit point, convenient for some criminals awaiting bail or temporary detention; some were already convicted and merely awaiting final sentencing before transfer to a specialized prison.

Pyle was practically ruined. Even if he was ultimately acquitted in the familicide case, he would still be prosecuted for the voyeuristic photos he took and the large collection of obscene videos of children he had stored, giving him a criminal record. And with such a record, there was basically no chance for him to turn his life around. Because some businesses, even if they might hire a murderer, would never employ a perverted pedophile like Pyle. A man like this... he was precisely the tool Dean planned to use to eliminate Krami.
