Chapter 161: Chapter 158: Don’t Look at Me with Those Eyes Anymore 2

Since she moved into Jinming Port City, he had never come back so late without a single phone call.

Jin Jumo quietly lowered her long eyelashes. After a while, she walked to the bedside, picked up the phone on the nightstand, and opened the recent call log. His name was conspicuously at the top.

Her eyes flickered slightly, and her pale fingertips slowly pressed down, dialing out.

The first time, it indicated that the phone was off.

The second time, about ten minutes later, Jin Jumo called again. This time, it connected, but after two rings, it was hung up.

Jin Jumo didn’t know why, but if it were a usual day, she probably wouldn’t have called again.

But today, she dialed out once more.

This time, it wasn’t picked up until near the end of the ringing.

Jin Jumo took a breath and was about to speak when the other person’s voice came through the phone’s electric wave first.

"Miss Jin."

As soon as this voice sounded, almost immediately, the image of the voice’s owner was sketched out in Jin Jumo’s mind.

Jin Jumo’s fingertips clenched tightly onto the phone, and Fu Mulan’s words repeated cruelly like a curse in her ear.

Her gums made a hissing sound from grinding, Jin Jumo’s spine straightened, and her pupils burned red.

"Miss Jin, is it you?" Tang Ruan’s soft voice brushed past again.

Jin Jumo bit her lower lip hard, staring straight at the reflection of herself on the floor-to-ceiling glass window, "Yes."

"Wait, wait, um Mo Chen, no, ah."

The woman’s breathy and tremulous voice seemed as if it was stuck right into her ear.

Jin Jumo’s face turned ashen as she stared desperately at her reflection in the glass window, bewildered by the disbelief and pain on its face.

Pain?

Why should she be in pain?

She had known all along that the man loved, truly loved, someone else.

Now he was merely with the one he loved, doing whatever; she shouldn’t care, shouldn’t she?

She didn’t like him, not one bit, she

Jin Jumo bit her hand, tears falling drop by drop onto her hand.

She suddenly felt so pathetic, still deceiving herself, she was still deceiving herself!

Jin Jumo, you lost, you lost this heart, didn’t you?

Otherwise, why does it hurt so much?

The woman’s soft moan abruptly ceased, leaving only the dial tone echoing in her ear.

Jin Jumo just held the phone in this position, for a long, long time.

Jin Jumo didn’t sleep all night, and Rong Mochen never came back.

The next day, Jin Jumo didn’t alarm Yu Huihua and the others. She used a ride-hailing app on her phone to get a car, with a clear destination: the law firm.

The law firm opened at nine, and Jin Jumo arrived past seven, waiting directly at the firm entrance until nine.

After some complications at the firm, she met the lawyer; it was already ten o’clock.

"Sorry, what should I call you?" The lawyer asked in a formal tone.

"Surname Jin."

"Hello, Miss Jin. Xiao Liu has already told me your basic situation. You wish to sue, correct?" The lawyer adjusted his silver-rimmed glasses and clasped his hands together, asking.

Jin Jumo squinted her eyes, "Yes."

The lawyer glanced at her stomach, a hint of doubt in his gaze, "Miss Jin, didn’t your husband accompany you here?"

Jin Jumo slightly pinched her fingers, "What does that have to do with me filing a lawsuit?"

"Oh, no, no relation."

The lawyer felt slightly awkward, took a breath, "Alright then. Miss Jin, could you please recount the incident in detail, and why you believe your grandfather’s death was intentional? Also, is there any evidence?"

Jin Jumo furrowed her brow and after a moment of deep thought said, "The hospital has surveillance footage, and there are witnesses. Is that enough?"

"So you have both testimony and evidence?"

"You could say that," Jin Jumo replied.

The lawyer pursed his lips, "And what is the purpose of fighting this lawsuit for you, Miss Jin?"

"Of course, it’s to bring the murderer who killed my grandfather to justice!" Jin Jumo frowned, speaking coldly.

"Please don’t mind, Miss Jin, I am just following procedure. Well, Miss Jin, I will take this case."

Before the lawyer could finish his words, the office door was suddenly pushed open from the outside.

Both the lawyer and Jin Jumo were momentarily stunned and looked over.

Jin Jumo’s gaze fell on the man who appeared at the doorway; her eyes chilled slightly, and she pressed her lips tightly as she looked at him.

The lawyer’s eyes suddenly narrowed when he saw the man and he stood up abruptly, startled, "You, are you President Rong?"

Rong Mochen has been in the spotlight a bit too frequently lately, so it’s normal for people to recognize him.

Rong Mochen didn’t look at him, his deep black eyes fixated on Jin Jumo, "Why did you run out without saying a word? Aunt Yu and the others are very worried about you."

Jin Jumo showed no expression on her face and looked at the lawyer, "Let’s continue talking."

The lawyer looked at Rong Mochen awkwardly, but inwardly speculated about the relationship between the two, secretly guessing that the Miss Jin in front of him might very well be the legendary future wife of the president of the Rong Family.

The lawyer glanced at Jin Jumo’s belly, instantly feeling that he might have inadvertently stumbled upon a huge secret that could get him killed!

He no longer dared to continue the conversation and decisively made his exit.

Seeing the lawyer actually leave, Jin Jumo clenched her hands tightly and stood up from her seat, ready to chase after him.

Rong Mochen lightly pressed his thin lips together, took a step inside, and directly closed the door, locking it from within.

Jin Jumo glared angrily at him but smiled, "What does Mr. Rong mean by this?"

Rong Mochen walked toward her, his proud figure approaching like a big tree, looking down at her from above, "Is it fun? Making everyone worry about you, is that fun?"

His cold and sinister voice came down from above, but Jin Jumo didn’t even blink and coldly looked up at him, "So what if everyone is worried, I don’t care, and I’m not interested."

"Jin Jumo!" Rong Mochen shouted, suddenly grabbing Jin Jumo’s slender wrist, only to have her break free with even greater force, "Don’t touch me!"

Jin Jumo flung his hand away, stepping back, her dark eyes instantly reddening with intense rejection as she stared at him, "You have no right to lecture me! The only person in this world who could is already dead, dead!"

Rong Mochen’s cold face showed a brief shock, then quickly returned to its icy demeanor, his thin lips taut, "So, you don’t care about anyone else’s concern either, do you?"

"Anyone else? You?" Jin Jumo asked quietly.

"Are you not aware of whether or not I care about you?" Rong Mochen looked deeply at Jin Jumo.

Jin Jumo abruptly turned her gaze away, "Don’t look at me with those eyes again, as if you genuinely care about me."

"It’s not ’as if’." Rong Mochen stepped forward, firmly grasping Jin Jumo’s struggling shoulders, his black eyes intensely focused on her, "Little Mo, I’ve told you, you have me."

"Have you?" Jin Jumo’s throat trembled, her eyes sparkling with crystalline tears, "Then tell me, why didn’t you come back last night? Who were you with?"

Rong Mochen hesitated, "Little Mo"

"Look at me now? Neither human nor ghost, can you please stop making me hopeful?"

Jin Jumo hunched over, crying for the first time because of him, sobbing so hard her voice was barely audible, "You love her, yet why do you keep doing things that make me think you like me, making me misunderstand? I’m not that rational, I can’t always stay clear-headed. I lost, I’ve lost everything."

Rong Mochen’s pupils shrank as the usually composed and shrewd man felt a glimmer of confusion in his eyes, or perhaps disbelief, "Little Mo"

"Don’t call me that."

Jin Jumo’s emotions were obviously out of control, her brain throbbing painfully, challenging her limits of reason.

She raised her swollen eyes, looking at Rong Mochen, slowly lifting her hand to touch his face, gently stroking, staring at his extraordinarily handsome features, with tears uncontrollably rolling down the corner of her eyes, "Did you already know?"

"Know what?" Rong Mochen’s voice was hoarse.

"Tang Ruan killed my grandfather."

Rong Mochen furrowed his long eyebrows tightly, staring at Jin Jumo.

"Did you know?" Jin Jumo’s throat felt as if someone had inserted several sharp knives, every word she spoke causing immense pain.

Rong Mochen tightened his lips, "Little Mo"

"Tell me, yes or no?" Jin Jumo stubbornly asked.

Rong Mochen’s gaze at her was filled with complexity and a deep aching pity, but he didn’t speak.

Jin Jumo turned her eyes away, started to laugh, but her tears fell even harder, lowly saying, "If you don’t say, then I’ll take it as your admission."

Turning her head to look at him, "Now that you know, what do you plan to do?"

Her eyes were bloodshot, entwined with crystalline tears, covering her entire eyeball, as Rong Mochen’s firm Adam’s apple moved, and he lowered his head to heavily kiss her brow.

Jin Jumo didn’t avoid it, only continued to stare directly at Rong Mochen.

Rong Mochen paused for a moment, then stepped back and released his lips, his black eyes intently holding Jin Jumo, speaking in a low voice, "She’s pregnant."

The tears overflowed from Jin Jumo’s eye sockets, "So what?"

Rong Mochen lowered his eyes, "Little Mo, I promise I’ll give you an explanation, give your grandfather an explanation, but not now. Give me some time, okay?"

Jin Jumo looked at him, stopped speaking, the emotions in her eyes gradually calming, becoming cold and even indifferent, "What if I don’t give it?"

"Little Mo, she’s not even three months pregnant"

"So what?" Jin Jumo’s eyes welled up again, "The doctor said my grandfather could have been discharged before the end of the year, did anyone give him time? You’re asking me to give you time now, on what grounds?"

Rong Mochen tightly grasped Jin Jumo’s shoulders, "Then what do you want? To have her pay for your grandfather’s life?"

"Isn’t that what should be done?" Jin Jumo clenched her fists, staring at him with red eyes, "Isn’t that right? A life for a life, isn’t it only just!"

"But she’s pregnant, it’s two lives!" Rong Mochen’s voice deepened, his black eyes showing signs of helplessness and irritation.

"Two lives count, but my grandfather’s life doesn’t, is that it?" Jin Jumo forcefully brushed him off, looking at him with grief.

Rong Mochen clenched his fists, "You know I don’t mean that."

"Then what do you mean? You want me to pretend nothing happened, to turn a blind eye to the truth, to know that the person I loved most was murdered and still act like nothing’s wrong. Don’t you think that’s too selfish, too cruel?" Jin Jumo stared at him in disappointment, her tears swirling in her red-rimmed eyes, stubbornly refusing to fall.
