Chapter 289: Chapter 69: The Final Melee – Part 2
"Enough talk."
With a sweep of his staff, the young man’s head burst open instantly, splattering all over Feng Mengmeng.
"Now you can’t run away," Chen Jiuge chuckled.
"We’re acquaintances, after all. Can’t you let me go first?" Feng Mengmeng said, forcing a smile.
"Acquaintances are easier to deal with. You’ll definitely understand," Chen Jiuge said with mock pity as he raised his staff.
WHOOSH!
Chen Jiuge heard the sound of something slicing through the air and quickly spun around to dodge.
"Ouch! Junior Brother, why didn’t you catch me?" Wudao Tian complained, rubbing his sore buttocks.
"Oh, it’s Eldest Senior Brother. I didn’t see you," Chen Jiuge replied sheepishly.
"One with Innate Divine Strength, another who must have an unusual constitution. Interesting. Come at me together," You Ruo said blandly, holding a large hammer.
"So arrogant?" Chen Jiuge exclaimed.
Getting up, Wudao Tian said, "This damned woman! Her strength is outrageous. Even though I possess Innate Divine Strength too, I still can’t match her."
The large hammer swung down onto Wudao Tian’s head, bringing with it a gust of wind.
CLANG!
Wudao Tian, using his broadsword to block the hammer, was still forced back several steps, unable to fully withstand the blow. Chen Jiuge seized the opening, sweeping his staff toward You Ruo’s waist.
As he launched the attack, Chen Jiuge was full of confidence. We’re all ordinary people, and my speed is twice that of a normal person. Even with Innate Divine Strength, you won’t be able to dodge this!
BANG!
You Ruo caught the staff with one hand. "Your speed and strength aren’t bad," she said, "but still lacking a bit."
You Ruo executed a small leap-step followed by a sweeping high kick. Chen Jiuge, unwilling to abandon his weapon, could only block with his other arm.
Damn, that hurts so much! Chen Jiuge felt as if his arm was about to split open. Is this woman part elephant or something?
Luckily, his Eldest Senior Brother was there. You Ruo had to defend against Wudao Tian’s broadsword, forcing her to release her grip on the staff.
Although they couldn’t defeat You Ruo, the two of them working together could stall her for some time without issue.
「 」
Da Bai shook the large gold chain around his neck and looked down at the Jiuyou Sect disciple at his feet. "Who are you looking down on? You really think I’m just a kid?"
He fiercely thrust the foot-long Mitsubishi Military Dagger in his hand into the disciple’s neck, eliminating him.
Yue Li, relying on his great strength, wielded an eight-foot-long spear, sweeping it around. Disciples without special abilities couldn’t withstand more than a few blows before being cut in half at the waist.
The Silver King, skilled in speed, swiftly reaped enemies with the dagger in his hand.
The Jiuyou Sect, on the other side, naturally had its own strong fighters. However, both sides had a tacit understanding to first eliminate the weaker disciples, as the battle for the championship was still to come.
Die Luowu, having the weakest constitution, inevitably made a mistake even under Wen Ruo’s protection. Looking at the long spear piercing her chest, a trace of regret showed on her face. "I’ve implicated you," she said.
Wen Ruo’s left hand hung limply. "Don’t talk about implication or fault," he said. "After all, this is just their competition."
RIP!
A sharp weapon sliced Wen Ruo’s neck, and a stream of bright red blood spurted out.
Not far away, Chen Jiuge, who was helping Wudao Tian hold off You Ruo, inadvertently saw this scene. His heart seemed to stop for a moment, and he cried out, "Senior Sister!"
"Little Wu!" Wudao Tian also saw Die Luowu die.
"So those two women were your Daoist couples, huh? How useless. You can’t even protect your own Daoist couples," You Ruo taunted.
"Damn it!"
Enraged, Wudao Tian and Chen Jiuge attacked even more fiercely. However, against You Ruo, it still wasn’t enough. The gap in their strength was too large to be overcome by a momentary burst of fury.
Instead, their anger caused their techniques to become chaotic, and You Ruo seized an opportunity, striking Wudao Tian.
Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, and Wudao Tian, barely able to stand, turned to Chen Jiuge. "Junior Brother," he said.
"I understand," Chen Jiuge nodded solemnly.
Wudao Tian threw down his broadsword and charged forward again. Facing You Ruo’s large hammer, he met it head-on with only one outstretched hand.
CRACK!
The pain of his shattered arm didn’t cause Wudao Tian’s expression to change in the slightest. Instead, he used his other hand to grip the large hammer tightly.
Chen Jiuge also seized the moment to rush forward. Seeing this, You Ruo laughed. "Did you think I rely only on my weapon?"
With that, she released her grip on the large hammer and caught Chen Jiuge’s staff with her bare hands. But unexpectedly, Chen Jiuge also let go of his staff, lunged forward, and tackled You Ruo, holding her body in a death grip.
BANG! BANG!
You Ruo clenched her fists and repeatedly slammed them into Chen Jiuge’s back.
"Die!" Wudao Tian, with only one arm remaining, staggered forward with the broadsword and plunged it fiercely downwards.
SQUELCH!
The broadsword pierced through both Chen Jiuge’s and You Ruo’s bodies. Blood leaking from the corners of his mouth, Chen Jiuge gave a mocking smile. "No matter how powerful you were," he said, "right now, you’re just an ordinary person."
Feeling the excruciating pain racking her body, You Ruo managed a slight smile. "Such a spirited child," she said.
Chen Jiuge could no longer hear her; he died after speaking those words. As for his Eldest Senior Brother, he too had passed, clutching his broadsword. If he hadn’t been stubbornly holding onto his last breath, he likely would have died when the hammer struck him earlier.
With the successive deaths of the three strongest people on the field, the scene descended into even greater chaos.
The disciples of the Jiuyou Sect, in particular, became utterly frenzied upon discovering their Sect Leader had been killed. They fought with suicidal abandon, trading injury for injury. If it weren’t for the Myriad Beasts Sect’s numerous disciples skilled in Body Refinement and their slightly superior martial arts, they would have likely been routed long ago.
「 」
Seeing the once arrogant Yue Li hacked into chunks of flesh, Da Bai shuddered in fright and quickly pulled his good friend, Qi Daoyuan, into a hiding spot in a corner.
"Isn’t it kind of wrong for us to be hiding like this?" Qi Daoyuan said, cautiously peering out at the brutal battlefield.
"Then why don’t you go out there?" Da Bai retorted.
Qi Daoyuan glanced out and saw the Silver King get stabbed in the buttocks with a blade. He shivered and said, "Actually, I think this spot is pretty good."
Da Bai and Qi Daoyuan had no idea how long they hid. The noise outside, initially deafening, had dwindled to sporadic sounds and finally, to complete silence.
The two beasts peeked out simultaneously. On the field, only Feng Mengmeng and a badly injured, burly man remained. Judging by his battered broadsword, he must have killed many and was undoubtedly extremely ferocious.
"Junior Sister, kill me. Take the championship," the burly man said calmly.
Feng Mengmeng, looking a bit dazed, pointed to herself. "Senior Brother," she said, "aren’t you saying that backward?"
"Letting our Sect Leader be taken out by two Myriad Beasts Sect disciples was already a disgrace. The champion must be you," the burly man said bluntly.
"Ahem. Actually, I think the champions should be us," Da Bai said, coughing lightly as he climbed out of a pit.
Seeing the two of them, a trace of shock appeared in the burly man’s eyes. "To think there are people so shameless as to hide?" he exclaimed. This is a major battle between two Sects! A matter concerning the Sect’s honor, and someone actually hid?
"Allow me to correct you. We’re not people, we’re beasts," Qi Daoyuan said, somewhat uncomfortably. What we did was indeed a bit shameless.
Da Bai had no such reservations. Pulling Qi Daoyuan along, he moved to eliminate the two people before them. The thought of the championship reward made his whole body tremble with excitement.
THWIP! THWIP! SQUELCH!
The Mitsubishi Military Dagger in his hand plunged into the burly man’s neck, but at the same time, a crossbow arrow pierced Da Bai’s head. Da Bai, dying with his eyes open, turned his head. "Despicable!" he choked out. "Using hidden weapons!"
The burly man was tough. Even as he died, he managed to pull at Qi Daoyuan, slowing his movements just enough for a second crossbow arrow to strike Qi Daoyuan in the chest. Though not yet dead, Qi Daoyuan was incapacitated.
Picking up a dagger from the ground, Feng Mengmeng revealed a dangerous smile. "Now, it’s my turn," she said.
Qi Daoyuan cried out in panic, "What are you planning to do? This wasn’t my idea!"
"You’ve already done such a shameless thing, and you still won’t admit it? Let me see just how tough you really are," Feng Mengmeng said, a cold glint in her eyes.
The following scene was not suitable for younger audiences.
「 」
Outside the arena, the eliminated participants and the Elders on the viewing platform were all discussing just who those two could be.
"Junior Brother, I think it’s best you head back first," Wudao Tian said, also sensing something was amiss. What Da Bai did was utterly shameless.
Zhu Yingque’s face was also dark as she watched the scene of Qi Daoyuan screaming continuously. Even if it wasn’t your idea, you still hid. If you’re going to be shameless, at least win! But you lost, and now you’re disgracefully begging for mercy.
"Little Sister, I think we should head back too," Zhu Yinghuang said, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
To avoid being scorned by everyone, Chen Jiuge had already slipped away the moment he saw Da Bai appear.
Absolutely, absolutely no one can find out Da Bai is my Guardian Beast! Chen Jiuge broke out in a cold sweat. Those two have become public enemies of both Sects!
When he gets back, I’ll exile him to the Heavenly Bull Realm for a hundred years! No, at least a thousand years! Chen Jiuge silently resolved.
