Chapter 103: Chapter 103: The Disturbance in the Southwest District_1
The others, however, looked at him expectantly.
Chu Feng felt like crying. He finally understood the saying: "You have to see your own boasts through, even if it means crawling on your knees."
He still insisted, "Thirty percent is no big deal."
Is it really no big deal?
The crowd eyed him suspiciously because his forehead had already begun to sweat.
Old Yuan exclaimed, his eyes widening, "Thirty-one percent!"
"Thirty-two percent..."
A few minutes later, it reached forty percent.
Forty percent yin energy was a Yellow-Grade Third Order disaster.
Chu Feng almost spat blood. With the yin energy at forty percent, wouldn’t going in be a death sentence?
As it turned out, after the yin energy reached forty percent, it continued to grow slowly.
Seeing everyone staring at the device, Chu Feng quickly picked up the phone and yelled, "Mom! What did you say? Grandma’s dying?"
Chu Feng said anxiously, "Everyone, my grandma is on her deathbed. It wasn’t easy for her to raise me; I have to go see her."
With that, he turned and fled.
The crowd stood there stunned. What kind of lousy expert is this, getting spooked so easily?
Feng Ju’s expression turned grim, and he said bitterly, "Old Yuan, call Master Chu."
Old Yuan immediately made the call. The person on the other end answered, "Who is this?"
Hearing it wasn’t Chu Hao, Old Yuan quickly said, "I’m looking for Chu Hao, Master Chu."
On the other end, Zheng Cheng said, "He’s locked up for fighting. It’s not convenient for him to take your call."
With that, before Old Yuan could say another word, Zheng Cheng hung up.
Old Yuan cursed, "Damn it!" How arrogant! His face grew stern. "Little Ying, trace Master Chu’s phone."
Xu Ying was a computer expert; this task was no challenge for her. After a quick search, she exclaimed, "Teacher Yuan, Master Chu’s phone is in the Southwest District—the very place where the disaster is occurring!"
Old Yuan was also startled. "What in the world is happening?"
Feng Ju reacted the fastest. "Call the deputy chief of the Southwest District police station!"
「The Seventh District was in an uproar.」
Meanwhile, numerous incidents were occurring in the Southwest District. Various traffic accidents were reported; drivers would slam on their brakes upon seeing someone cross the road, only for the person to vanish when they looked up. Even the corpses of stray cats and dogs emerged from the streets and alleys, all heading in the same direction.
A female reporter faced her live camera. "This is Anli News reporting. At 10:00 AM today, extremely bizarre events began to unfold. Everyone, please look! Some of these cats and dogs are alive, while others are already dead. That’s right! Dead, their bodies emitting a foul stench, and yet, they are starting to move!"
BANG!
Another car crash occurred up ahead; fortunately, there were no fatalities.
"Damn it, are you blind or what?!" the driver yelled as he got out of his car.
However, his expression quickly turned strange. The ’person’ in front of him was disemboweled and stared blankly at him.
"Hey, buddy, your special effects are top-notch," the driver joked, trying to lighten the mood.
The corpse ignored him and continued onward, staggering and dripping blood.
The driver began to feel a chill crawl up his spine and quickly took out his phone to snap a picture of the corpse.
Incidents plagued a twenty-kilometer radius in the Southwest District, causing massive traffic jams.
In residential areas, dog walkers noticed their pets barking frantically, fur bristling, as if they had seen something utterly terrifying.
The Southwest District had plunged into utter chaos. Many traffic police arrived, and numerous other officers were deployed, but they were quickly overwhelmed.
「At the Southwest District police station.」
Zheng Cheng was reviewing documents when an officer rushed in, agitated. "Captain Zheng, it’s bad! You... you have to come see!"
Zheng Cheng asked, "What is it?"
"So... so many cats and dogs."
Zheng Cheng scoffed with a laugh, "A few cats and dogs have you this worked up?"
The officer, breaking out in a cold sweat, stammered, "Not a few! There are hordes of them, swarms of cats and dogs!"
When Zheng Cheng and the others stepped outside, they saw a massive horde of cats and dogs—some dead and emitting a foul stench—completely surrounding the police station.
What... what in the world is happening? Zheng Cheng was astonished, and the other officers were equally dumbfounded.
For some reason, they felt the air around them grow colder. Despite it being a sweltering day, it was now unbearably chilly.
"Why is it so cold? It should be thirty-two degrees Celsius today, right?" one officer said in disbelief.
Their vision swam for a moment, and they faintly saw many figures approaching the police station. Some had bleeding head wounds, others were soaking wet, and all bore vacant, utterly horrifying expressions.
Then, in the blink of an eye, all the figures vanished.
"Did... did you see that?" Zheng Cheng stammered, a chill of terror gripping him.
The others swallowed hard, their skin crawling. What in the world is happening?
WOO... WOO... WOO...
Police sirens wailed as the Southwest District descended into complete pandemonium. People gradually began to realize that something was terribly wrong.
Several police cars pulled up to the station entrance, and a portly man stepped out.
Zheng Cheng hurried forward. "Deputy Chief, what brings you here?"
This Deputy Chief stared intently at Zheng Cheng. "Did you arrest a man named Chu Hao?"
Chu Hao! Zheng Cheng remembered: the youngest one they had brought in was named Chu Hao.
A sinking feeling washed over Zheng Cheng. "Ye... yes! He was arrested for fighting."
The Deputy Chief raised his hand and delivered a sharp slap across Zheng Cheng’s face.
SLAP!!
The Deputy Chief roared, "You son of a bitch! Release him immediately!"
Zheng Cheng clutched his stinging cheek, utterly dumbfounded.
Soon, another convoy of vehicles pulled up to the station.
Old Yuan, Xu Ying, and most of the personnel from the Seventh District disembarked. The Deputy Chief hurried to greet them. "Officer Ying, the young man, Chu Hao, is inside."
Old Yuan seethed, "Damn it! Who detained him?"
It was highly probable that Chu Hao was responsible for everything unfolding in the Southwest District.
The Deputy Chief didn’t know Old Yuan’s exact status, but his superiors had been emphatic: Old Yuan’s words were like an imperial decree, to be obeyed without question.
The Deputy Chief bellowed, "Zheng Cheng! What in the hell is going on here?!"
Zheng Cheng, his spirit already crushed, stammered, "Deputy Chief, I... I..."
The Deputy Chief slapped him again, hard enough to make Zheng Cheng see stars.
Old Yuan and the others activated their Heavenly Eye and instantly perceived the Ghosts.
A quick scan revealed hundreds, at least. Even a single cat had seven or eight Ghosts clinging to it.
Everyone gasped in shock.
Xu Ying’s voice trembled. "How can there be so many?"
"Let’s go." Old Yuan led the way into the police station.
Upon entering the station, Old Yuan and the others found Chu Hao lying on the floor, asleep, with his back to them.
Old Yuan was livid. "You imbecile, open this cell door now!"
Ding... Host has successfully shown off, gaining sixty Pretentiousness Points.
Zheng Cheng was now trembling uncontrollably, his heart leaping into his throat. He silently cursed Lu Shen, that son of a bitch, for dragging him into this disastrous pit.
Just what kind of person had he provoked? It was bad enough that the Deputy Chief was alarmed, but who was this Old Yuan, who could make even the Deputy Chief so terrified?
Old Yuan entered the cell and said awkwardly, "Master Chu, you’ve been gravely wronged."
Wang Meng, his face stern, stated, "My brother is asleep."
The corner of Old Yuan’s mouth twitched. "Master Chu, could you perhaps make those... entities outside withdraw? It’s absolute pandemonium out there."
Ankang Mo said flatly, "He already told you, he’s asleep. Wait."
Everyone: "..."
