Chapter 588: Chapter 16: Early Romance Issues (Part 2)
Just as I was about to head out, Zhuo Feng, who had dropped Xiao Xian and Zhang Yiyi off at school, returned.
"Uncle, you’re here. I was just telling my little niece that if she goes back to school a bit later, she could bring some crabs with her. I heard their school food is pretty awful," the one complaining about the food wasn’t Xiao Xian, but Zhang Yiyi, who had gained four pounds in just two days.
As soon as she arrived, she indulged in a feast prepared by Mao Dazhu, and in the following days, she also met up with Xuerou to have a meal at the Zeng Family. It was only after meeting Xiao Xian and Zhang Yiyi that Xuerou learned that Zhang, who had supposedly been home sick for a month, had also joined the Reverse Genius Class.
Next up was the big shopping spree before school started; Zhang Yiyi even declared she wanted to rent a truck to bring a load of food and supplies back to the North Campus. However, after being reminded by Xiao Xian that vehicles weren’t allowed inside Huake Institute, she changed her mind to dragging a cart inside. Eventually, they ended up buying four large bags of supplies, with Xiao Xian and her carrying two each.
Yezi was facing away from Zhuo Feng, and when he first heard her voice, he shuddered, then quickly spun around 180 degrees, staring at Zhuo Feng, "It’s you!"
This big lad looked somewhat familiar, Zhuo Feng pondered, trying to remember if he was one of the regular customers who frequently bought sweet potatoes from her store.
"It’s me, auntie, don’t you recognize me? I’m Yezi, Li Ye, Xiao Xian’s... friend." When Yezi saw Zhuo Feng, his brain heated up, and he started to speak unclearly due to excessive excitement, almost grabbing Zhuo Feng’s shoulders, fortunately, he also knew better since they weren’t close in such a public place.
"Now I remember, you’re that boy from the Miao family whom Xiao Xian pantsed when you were little. Oh, look at my mouth—I should say a big lad now. You’ve really grown tall, and what are you doing in Beijing? Does Xiao Xian know?" Zhuo Feng had no clue Yezi had come for Xiao Xian, simply assuming he was in town with his family.
At that moment, Uncle Lu and Feng Xing were at a loss, just as an old customer entered the store asking about the price of fresh Hairy Crabs.
Yezi’s heart was blazing; just as he was about to ask where Xiao Xian was, he suddenly shouted and charged out of the store.
"Hey, what’s wrong with this kid?" Zhuo Feng was confused by Yezi’s behavior, and Uncle Lu hurried to fill her in on what had happened over the past half year, including Yezi running away from home, going to Beijing alone, and eventually working on his own crab-raising business.
Both Zhuo Feng and Feng Xing were deeply moved after hearing the story.
Several hours passed, and another person burst into the shop. Yezi had bought some new clothes, swapping out his logistical vest, shorts, and sandals for a clean white T-shirt, blue jeans, and a pair of sports shoes. His hair was also trimmed into a crew cut. Turns out, Yezi knew his previous attire was shabby, so he had changed into clean clothes and returned.
"Auntie, where is Xiao Xian? I went to her old school to look for her, they said she transferred. Where did she move to? Is she at home now?" Yezi asked, a bit embarrassed as everyone in the shop stared at him.
Zhuo Feng wasn’t sure how to respond. Strictly speaking, Xiao Xian and Yezi were childhood sweethearts, and it was touching that he’d gone through such trouble to see her in Beijing. Even her slow-witted husband sensed Yezi’s feelings for Xiao Xian.
You could say these kids, one only seventeen and Xiao Xian just twelve, are too young for romance. No parent would encourage such early love, and Zhuo Feng was definitely against it.
"She’s not at home. Her new school is a boarding school. Xiao Xian said she will come home once a month," the frequency of returning from Huake Institute was similar to when she was at Holy Heart, so Zhuo Feng didn’t inquire further.
"Boarding school? Can I go see her?" Yezi asked eagerly.
Feng Xing and Zhuo Feng exchanged glances, neither saying a word, and Yezi looked at Uncle Lu, who also remained silent.
The heart of a parent knows bounds, and Uncle Lu, having children himself, understood this young couple wasn’t Yezi’s girlfriend’s biological parents, but they obviously cared deeply for Xiao Xian.
Yezi’s blunt approach to finding people might stir other concerns.
"Li Ye? Let me tell you something. You’re still young, and so is Xiao Xian. How about you wait until she finishes her schooling, at least after she turns eighteen, then you can go see her?" What Zhuo Feng really meant was, if you two really want to date, at least wait until you’re adults.
But Yezi misunderstood, his face changing and his fists clenching tightly, "What? You want me to wait five or six years before I see her?"
Seeing this, Feng Xing quickly moved Zhuo Feng behind him, "Yezi, right? You misunderstood. What Ah Feng meant was that Xiao Xian’s studies are intensive right now, and she cannot be distracted. As a man, you must be responsible, not burden the person you like. Wait until you’ve achieved something, and Xiao Xian has completed her studies, then come find her. Right, wife? That’s what you meant, right?"
Yezi was stunned. Achieved something? What does that even mean?
"Yezi, you should go back with Uncle first, and we’ll visit again in a while," Uncle Lu, fearing Yezi would stubbornly create a scene trying to find someone there, pushed and hustled him out of the Agricultural Specialty Store.
Once they were gone, Feng Xing breathed a sigh of relief, "Ah Feng? I didn’t say anything wrong, did I?"
"Wrong my foot, what were you even saying? You mean I look down on that boy? If you can’t speak properly, then don’t. You’re infuriating me." Zhuo Feng picked up a cushion and threw it at Feng Xing. What she really wanted to say was, "Kid, early romance isn’t great, wait a few more years." (To be continued.
