8:30 PM, Capital of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, a hotel suite in the eastern part.
"I've spotted that suspicious guy too!"
At the conference table, Michelle presented surveillance footage to everyone, saying:
"Looks like the same person as the one Reesi saw."
Everyone's gaze turned to Michelle's laptop, which displayed a somewhat blurry surveillance video.
In the very center of the frame, Deputy Governor Whitmore is being escorted by bodyguards and others as he gets out of a car and enters a hospital.
In the lower left corner of the frame, a man wearing a jacket stands in a corner, taking surreptitious photos with his phone of the Deputy Governor and the others. After they all enter the hospital, the man in the jacket also puts away his phone and turns to leave.
"That's him!"
After watching the surveillance video, Reesi quickly placed the photo in her hand next to the computer and said:
"The ambulance had just completed an urgent lifesaving mission at that moment and was temporarily parked by the driver on the side of the road. The camera inside the ambulance just happened to capture this guy's face."
"Well done!"
Luo An patted Reesi on the shoulder and quickly handed the photo to Mona, asking:
"So, can you find him?"
"Of course."
Mona gave Luo An a proud look and said with a smile:
"Trust in my newly made little toy."
Saying so, Mona picked up the scanning device to process the photo Reesi obtained. The laptop screen quickly displayed the face of the person in the photo, followed by Mona hitting a few keys on the keyboard, pulling up a blue page, and countless photos began to flash and compare instantly.
In under a minute, the flickering comparison on the computer screen stopped, and a man's photo appeared. Mona introduced solemnly:
"Ladies and gentlemen, the results are in.
This man is named Adam Davis, 33 years old, with his most recent employment record six months ago at a lumber mill, and he hasn't been on tax records for a long stretch."
"Sounds like the IRS would be quite interested in him."
Luo An chuckled and asked:
"Can you find out where this man lives?"
"Where he lives I can't determine, but I've found his recent spending records."
Mona's fingers flew across the keyboard of the computer, and soon said:
"The bank account records indicate that at 7 PM tonight, Adam Davis withdrew 500 US dollars from an ATM in the northern part of Harrisburg.
Twenty minutes later, surveillance footage from a nearby street captured him walking eastward with two women on his arms.
I checked, and not far to the east of that street, there's a motor inn that operates 24 hours a day."
"It looks like our Mr. Adam is quite fond of patronizing women with, let's say, challenging life businesses."
Luo An gently patted Mona's shoulder, then raised his head to look at everyone and commanded loudly:
"Everybody, let's roll. This mission is Code H!"
"No problem!"
---
In the northern part of Harrisburg, a motor inn by the roadside.
Parking the SUV in a secluded corner by the road, Luo An, accompanied by Chenier, walked towards the front desk, placed the gold badge of the FBI on the counter, and handed over Adam Davis's photo, asking directly:
"Which room is this guy in?"
"2nd floor, Room 233."
The front desk was a white woman in her forties with big curly hair, who didn't panic at all upon seeing the FBI gold badge, quite calm and proficiently stated:
"Please try to minimize damage to the room's facilities when making an arrest, and leave your contact information behind. My boss will get in touch with you later for compensation."
Obviously experienced, the front desk lady didn't rattle Luo An, who smiled without saying much else, instructed Chenier to leave contact information, and then quickly led Winslow and Reesi up the stairs heading straight for the target room.
Room 233 was in the middle section of the second floor of the motel. Upon finding the room, Winslow and Reesi stood armed at the right side of the door, looking towards Luo An waiting for his orders.
While Luo An's brow furrowed as he approached, Reesi noticed and asked in a low voice:
"What's wrong?"
Luo An shook his head without speaking and promptly lifted his foot and kicked the door in.
Boom—
With a terrifying force, the door was kicked open in an instant. Winslow and Reesi hurriedly rushed into the room with their guns drawn, shouting:
"Nobody move! Stop what you're doing!"
"Put your hands up!"
The two of them shouted loudly, only to freeze in place the next moment. The layout of the room was simple, other than the bathroom, there was only a coffee table and a large bed.
Several bottles of beer were placed on the coffee table, some empty and some half full, next to the beer were a few cigarettes with green plant tobacco that was addictive.
On the large bed in the center of the room lay one man and two women, all scantily clad, the man in the middle's face was unmistakable—it was indeed their target, Adam Davis.
But at this moment, the three people were lying motionless on the bed, faces twisted in pain, pupils dilated, breath completely gone.
"Fu-k!"
Winslow went up and felt the pulses of the three, instantly frowning and cursing profusely, then turned back to look at Luo An and Reesi with an extremely ugly expression:
"They're all dead."
Reesi, with a gloomy face, walked over to the corpses, bent down to check for a moment then looked up and said:
"The bodies are still warm, they haven't been dead for long.
Additionally, there are no obvious external injuries on the bodies, I suspect it's poisoning."
Luo An picked up a cigarette butt from the floor, the smell of the green plant was particularly pungent.
When they arrived at the door of room 233, Luo An, who had his "emotional perception" on, had already detected no emotional fluctuations in the room.
At that time, he had made two possibilities: either the person had run away, or the person was dead. Now, the results were out, unfortunately, it was the latter.
After a few seconds of silence, Luo An said in a calm voice:
"Call the forensic team over, if nothing goes wrong, it should be cyanide again."
"Damn it."
Winslow cursed a few times and took out his phone to start making calls. Chenier walked into the room and upon seeing the scene, her complexion worsened as well. She looked at Luo An and asked:
"Is it the guy who poisoned people in the hospital? Is that guy covering his tracks?"
"Possibly."
Luo An nodded, and Reesi added on the side:
"That's what I'm thinking, the poison that killed the nine victims in the hospital was cyanide, and the conditions of these three people's deaths also resemble cyanide poisoning."
"So how did they get poisoned?"
Chenier looked at the messy items on the coffee table, her brows furrowed tightly:
"Beer or cigarettes?"
Reesi didn't respond, as the taste of both beer and cigarettes could suppress the almond-like bitterness of cyanide.
Luo An didn't continue on this topic, he started to carefully inspect the room and asked:
"Reesi, Winslow, have you found Adam Davis's cell phone?"
"No."
Both of them shook their heads together, and Chenier immediately realized, exclaiming:
"Luo An, do you mean the killer has been here just now?!"
"I also didn't find Adam's phone."
After carefully inspecting for a moment, Luo An stood up and frowned:
"It seems that way now."
Reesi's expression darkened, she nodded and quickly walked out of the room, saying:
"I'm going to the front desk downstairs for the surveillance footage."
"The forensic team will be here shortly."
After Reesi left the room, Winslow had finished the call on his side. He glanced at the three bodies on the big bed and asked:
"Luo An, what do we do next?"
"First wait for the forensic team to handle the bodies, and let them test whether what killed these three people was indeed cyanide."
Luo An paused for a few seconds, then continued:
"Additionally, we need to find Adam Davis's residence and take a look there."
