Chapter 217: Chapter 217: Giant
Chapter 217: Giant
The spring nights were cool and comfortable, with just the right temperature.
As a city located in the central area of the Land of Fire, Saki Castle bustled with activity even at midnight. People strolled shoulder to shoulder along the streets, lingering at various stalls and enjoying the vibrant night market. It was a city that never slept.
But in this seemingly prosperous and lively city, a dazzling blue light suddenly lit up the starry sky.
Boom!
As the light faded, a dull roar echoed through the city.
The sounds of collapsing houses and scattering rubble rang out one after another. All people could see was a massive black shadow falling from the sky, crashing down and crushing houses beneath its weight.
Immediately after, screams and desperate cries for help pierced the air, shattering the peace and beauty.
And then, silence.
The entire city... fell into an eerie stillness.
The ground trembled, as if it could no longer bear the weight of this intruder. Scorching heat filled the air, like a meteorite crashing down with red flames billowing.
From the ruins, a colossal figure slowly rose, its massive body blocking out the moonlight.
Its exposed skin was dark red, like prawns fresh out of boiling water emitting a faint meaty aroma.
"Wh-What... is that?!"
Panicked voices broke the dead silence of Saki Castle.
On a nearby street, amid the stunned crowd, a man looked up and muttered. His tone began as a whisper but quickly turned hysterical.
As the city’s lights flickered against the figure, people saw a "slender" leg.
They looked up, tracing that leg to a powerful body shaped like an adult human’s, but massive. Radiating blistering heat and that same meaty scent, it was a giant straight out of myth.
Was this a dream?
"Monster... monster!"
"It’s eating people! The monster is eating people!"
"Run—run!"
...
The crowd finally reacted. Instinct overtook reason, and chaos erupted.
They had seen it, when the giant stood, it snatched a person from the wreckage and tossed them straight into its mouth.
It eats people.
That giant eats people!
Though Saki Castle was large, it was like a toy town before such a creature. But still, people ran madly, trying to flee from the terrifying behemoth.
"Another one... from another world?"
Hinata stood calmly on a street corner. Unlike the terrified civilians fleeing around her, she gracefully leapt onto a rooftop.
Scattered lamps dimly lit parts of the city, but in the shadows of the night, most couldn’t see the giant clearly.
But Hinata had already activated her Byakugan.
She saw its entire form. The massive body was impossible to miss but what struck her most were its eyes.
They were clear and pure, like those of a newborn.
And yet, on a monster over ten meters tall, such purity wasn’t comforting. It was chilling.
Looking down at the crowd, scattered like ants, the giant grinned revealing rows of white teeth, eyes sparkling with excitement.
Its instincts screamed: Eat. Eat them. Only by devouring humans could it regain its original body.
Its mind was as simple and pure as a baby’s—no distractions, no morality.
Just hunger.
And so, it acted.
Waving massive arms like stone bridges, it reached down toward the terrified crowd below.
The packed city, like an ant nest, was now its dinner table. The streets were plates, the people fish swimming through water.
It reached down, scooping up one "fresh catch."
"Help! Help!"
"Save me!"
"No! I don’t want to die!"
Screams, cries, snot, and tears mingled in the chaos.
It took only minutes for paradise to become hell. And in the giant’s palm, a man struggled wildly, clinging to life.
He scanned the chaos for someone, anyone to save him.
But everyone else was too busy trying to survive.
His pleas only heightened the panic. People trampled over one another, clawing over backs and shoulders just to escape.
Many were roused from sleep with no clue what was happening, fleeing as frantically as those who had seen the giant with their own eyes.
Panic was infectious. And in that frenzy, things like morality or compassion were the first to be discarded.
Still held high in the giant’s grasp—over ten meters above the ground, the man’s struggles began to weaken.
Hope of rescue faded.
Now, all his energy was spent trying to break free.
But the giant’s palm was like solid iron.
The searing heat from the monster’s body scalded his skin, unbearable pain setting in.
He stared, wide-eyed, at the creature’s grotesque face... and the approaching mouth.
From its throat came animalistic growls. Despair consumed him.
"Why... why is it this thing?"
Then, just as he was about to give up.
A familiar voice, distressed yet recognizable, reached his ears.
Before he could react, the arm holding him began to tremble.
Then
It was severed.
Aaah—!
He had no time to see what happened—only to scream.
But just before impact
A piercing sound sliced through the air.
A long, sharp blade flew from afar with unrelenting speed. It struck the giant’s thick arm, nailing it to a nearby wall and stopping his fall.
Cold sweat dripped onto the ground, less than half a meter below.
He gasped for breath.
Though still caught in the giant’s hand, he had survived.
Blood poured from the severed limb, soaking him like a spring but after brushing so close with death, he no longer cared.
He twisted his body. The severed hand had lost its grip, making it easier to break free.
Thump.
He hit the ground.
Not even bothering to stand, he tilted his head upward, eyes fixed on the sky.
He had to see who saved him?
Who was it that dared challenge the giant?
But after a single glance, his body froze.
From the sky...
A bloody rain began to fall on the city.
No matter if they were civilians, nobles, samurai, or ninjas, they were all drenched in blood as they fled the city.
The blood fell like rain, creating a momentary sound of rushing water throughout the streets.
A strong metallic scent hung thick in the air, engulfing the entire city in the stench of death.
It evoked fear, madness, and despair. Yet somehow, many couldn’t help but lift their heads... to look at the colossal figure that had brought this nightmare upon them.
But at this very moment, where were the giants that loomed in the night sky?
"So weak."
Floating mid-air, Ryosuke calmly looked down at the remains of the so-called "giant," now reduced to rubble across the city.
His mood was oddly subdued.
It was then that he saw it, the space-time gate that Sakata Gintoki and Shanks had once described.
An ethereal portal shimmering with phantom blue light, like a heavenly mirage.
Without hesitation, Ryosuke unleashed the maximum power he could summon in that short moment. Without even sparing a word to Hinata beside him, he shot toward the gate fist drawn, as if to prove his worth.
But unfortunately, the gate was too far away. By the time he reached it, the door had already vanished.
And that "giant" had been the foreign invader launched from that very gate.
"...You’re too strong."
Shanks was already waiting at the place where the shattered giant had fallen, having just bid farewell to the Saki family. His eyes held a hint of conflict.
"Even in our world, there are few who could survive that move. Honestly... I’m not sure I could."
Though he hadn’t seen the gate with his own eyes, he had witnessed Ryosuke’s overwhelming blow, powerful enough to shake the heavens.
Weren’t jonin supposed to be the highest-tier combatants in this world?
Then what level of monster had he just watched?
Was he... the Hokage?
The gap between a jonin and a Hokage was massive.
Shanks frowned slightly, feeling disappointed in the Saki family’s intelligence. He didn’t believe they had fed him lies on purpose, but it was clear they had no access to the truth behind the ninja world.
This only solidified his resolve to continue working with Hyuga.
"I just got irritated when the gate closed," Ryosuke said with a wry smile. "So I might’ve hit him a bit harder than I meant to."
"But you were right, it really was fleeting. Barely lasted two seconds. Totally unpredictable. This ’test’ of power isn’t just about strength, it’s about luck too."
He had only managed to mobilize 80% of his strength in time. Even if he could’ve pushed it to 100%, the distance would’ve made it impossible.
Apparently, proximity was key to interfering with the space-time gate.
"Luck’s part of strength too," Shanks replied without missing a beat.
"In our world, there are plenty of lucky bastards who soared to greatness just because they ate the right Devil Fruit."
He folded his arms and looked skyward.
"In just a few months, that gate has appeared twice near us. Which means... it’ll probably show up again somewhere else soon. That’s good news."
But then, his expression darkened as he turned to the blood-soaked city.
"Still... did you have to make it that bloody? We don’t even know if that giant’s blood is toxic. If it is, these people—"
"Relax. It’s just normal blood," Ryosuke cut in with a chuckle, glancing at him.
"I could tell the moment I made contact."
Despite its massive size, lack of consciousness, and cannibalistic behavior, the giant was essentially still human—just with some internal differences.
Suddenly, more screams rang out through the shattered remnants of Sasaki Castle.
Waves of heat rippled across the air, causing those who had paused to reassess the chaos to immediately bolt again in terror.
"...Wait."
Shanks narrowed his eyes at the sudden shift. Something wasn’t right.
He looked over at the nearest chunk of the giant’s flesh—and watched as it began to vaporize before his eyes, vanishing into thin air.
Within moments, it was gone, as if it had never existed.
"I noticed when I severed its arm," Ryosuke said calmly.
"These giants regenerate quickly. But after death, their blood and body dissolve fast too no lingering traces."
"There’s no reasoning with something that has no mind. Leaving it alive would’ve caused more problems."
The truth was—Ryosuke hadn’t "figured all that out" in such a short encounter.
Everything he knew about the creature had come from his past life memories.
That thing... it was a Pure Titan, also known as a Brainless Titan from the world of Attack on Titan.
"Ryosuke, are you okay?"
A black figure sped toward him. It was Hinata. She had tracked the battle through her Byakugan and finally arrived.
"Of course," Ryosuke smiled, his voice easy.
He was just about to say more when a new figure emerged from the distance.
"Ryosuke-sama! Hinata-hime!"
Even from afar, they could hear the voice clearly—a man limping toward them, his body wrapped in steam, clutching a blade in his hand.
"Mr. Sasaki, we’re from different factions," Ryosuke said with a faint laugh. "You don’t need to call me ’sama.’ It’s too much."
He looked at the approaching figure with amused interest.
It was none other than Saki Yu, the heir of the Saki family—
and the poor soul who had almost been devoured by the Titan earlier.
"Master Ryosuke, please don’t joke like that. If not for you, I’d be monster food right now."
Sakio finally reached them, his steps difficult but persistent. His expression was one of deep gratitude.
He had personally witnessed Ryosuke’s destruction of the Titan.
That image was burned into his mind forever.
And with it came the painful realization:
Ordinary people challenging ninjas? What a laughable fantasy.
Maybe... all this time, the ninjas had simply allowed civilians to believe they held authority—just to maintain order among the masses.
After seeing Ryosuke’s power firsthand, Saki Yu now understood how truly small he was.
Swallowing that bitter truth, he respectfully handed the sword he had been carrying back to its rightful owner.
"Mr. Shanks. Thank you as well—for saving me earlier."
He bowed.
The moment the Titan’s arm had evaporated, he had retrieved the sword that saved his life only to realize it was one of the treasured blades owned by Shanks, the honored guest of his household.
