Chapter 1423: Chapter 1424: Car Accident and Cliff Fall (3)
A steep cliff, above the torrent, inside a tightly covered cave hidden by dense foliage.
Chiang Yu lay on the ground with his eyes closed, his face deathly pale. A thick layer of leaves was spread beneath him, and the campfire beside him was shooting orange sparks, surprisingly beautiful.
Suddenly, his brow furrowed slightly, and his eyes, covered in sweat, slowly opened.
Chiang Yu felt a slight pain in his head and a faint ache in his body. His thoughts gradually gathered, and what had happened before rushed back like a tidal wave. Startled, he quickly sat up, looking around in surprise.
Where is this place? Why is he here? What about Xiao Qing? Clearly, it was she who...
Before he could figure it out, the leaves at the cave entrance suddenly stirred. Chiang Yu’s heart tightened, and he grabbed a large rock beside him, weakly standing up and warily looking towards the entrance.
The branches and leaves swayed gently, and a figure suddenly appeared in front of Chiang Yu.
"Xiao Qing?!" Chiang Yu looked at An Yiqing, who appeared before him with surprise and joy, casually throwing aside the rock in his hand and rushing to her in an instant, "I knew nothing could happen to you! Just before falling into the water, you saved me from the car; nothing’s going to happen to you!"
An Yiqing smiled slightly without speaking, walked to the fire, casually tossed two rabbits she held onto the ground, then wrung out her water-soaked clothes and used her Inner Breath to dry them.
"Uncle Chiang, how is your body feeling? Is there any discomfort?" After handling her affairs, An Yiqing grabbed Chiang Yu’s wrist to check his pulse, "It’s just a bit of cold and some minor injuries, nothing serious. I caught two rabbits; we can eat soon."
Chiang Yu didn’t speak, just watched in silence as An Yiqing squatted on the ground, deftly skinning the rabbits, gutting them, skewering them on sticks, and placing them on the fire to roast.
"Uncle Chiang, what’s wrong? Are you in pain?" Noticing Chiang Yu standing motionless beside her, An Yiqing raised her head in confusion, looking at him.
Chiang Yu’s gaze flickered, and he sat cross-legged, looking straight at An Yiqing.
"Xiao Qing, did I get you involved in this mess this time? Do you not blame me?" Chiang Yu was well aware of why Long Zaitian wanted him dead, and he felt very sorry for dragging An Yiqing into it.
An Yiqing casually turned the rabbits over the fire, her bright eyes smiling at Chiang Yu: "Uncle Chiang, you’re my family just like Ah Feng and the others are; there’s no such thing as involvement. Long Zaitian is courting death; we’ll rest up and then kick him off his position as the Sect Leader."
At the mention of Long Zaitian, a flash of icy coldness crossed Chiang Yu’s eyes. An Yiqing precisely caught it, quietly lowering her head.
"Xiao Qing, you were right before; Long Zaitian isn’t fit to be the Sect Leader of the Xuanqing Sect. Once I return, I will definitely pull him from that position!" Chiang Yu’s tone was firm, and from the moment he knew this was the doing of the Xuanqing Sect, his last shred of duty towards Long Zaitian vanished, wholly considering him an enemy.
With a deep sigh, Chiang Yu suddenly felt much more at ease. He turned to look at An Yiqing, his eyes deep: "Xiao Qing, do you know why Long Zaitian won’t let me leave the Xuanqing Sect and wants me dead?"
"Isn’t it because Long Zaitian is too fearful of you?" An Yiqing raised her eyebrows, could there be another reason?
Chiang Yu shook his head with a bitter smile: "Long Zaitian does indeed fear me, but my talents alone aren’t enough for him to want to eliminate me completely. The reason he’s so ruthless is that I have evidence that could bring him down!"
