Chapter 368: A Day Out

Chapter 368: A Day Out

"What about you? What is your rank in the military?" Allie asked as she sat on his worktable. She had finished her homework for the day and was waiting for him to finish the last part of what he was working on. Which was installing the hoverpads he had invented.

Once that was done he had promised to take them uptown to a fancy restaurant to eat. The girls had even gone out and got some nice outfits to wear. Now they were all dressed up and ready to go. Jace on the other hand was just in a tropical button up shirt with a pair of jeans and loose white t-shirt.

"Technically I am unranked. Because the Victorium does not have a parallel rank, I am kind of in between ranks. So the High Priestess is just using myself and others like me as flexible assets for the moment." Jace explained as he set aside his tools as he finished. "What rank does the High Priestess hold in the Victorium Military?"

Allie froze for a moment, stopping swinging her legs as Jace stepped away to get ready to go out. He just had to clean his hands. "Umm... she holds... the highest rank. She is considered the military leader. Unlike humans the military and their religious beliefs are aligned. But they do not force thor beliefs like the Holy Empire does. But it is a core component of their centralized military. The bulk of their military is made up of the militias for each race which are all ruled by a High General who makes up the military council."

"Good job, but they are not religiously structured. Nor is it based on their religious beliefs they are just titles that are grandfathered in from the first Victorium Generation who went around conquering all the nearby systems. They just saw no reason to change it." Jace explained as he cleaned his hands before wiping them off. "Now what about the human militia?"

"The human militia is not yet completely structured. But for the moment I just have to worry about the academy which has already been hashed out. Going to the academy is no longer required. But a percentage of the population on each colony or planet is required to join the military. By default, all orphans join the military academy. The reason is so they can gain a basic education before they are either pulled out of the academy to go back to civilian life, advance to get a greater education at a university, or pursue a career in the military. So for the moment the only ranks to be confirmed within the military are Cadets, the lowest rank possible. Then there are the Generals, Admirals, and the High General." Allie confirmed as Jace stepped up to the garage door control panel. The girls all ran up and lined up with the garage door.

"Very Good, Cain you want to join us or-" Jace stopped mid-sentence as there was a quiet clicking of metal and he was standing next to Allie. "Make sure you lock up after we leave." Jace told him as he opened the garage door.

"I know." Cain answered.

"Next question. What is the protocol for an unknown species?" Jace asked as he moved to his truck once the garage was opened.

"It was..." Allie began but bit her lip as she stopped. She seemed lost in thought as she walked over to the truck. The others climbed into the empty bed of the truck while Jace stepped into the driver cabin. After a few extra seconds she climbed into the bed of the truck as well. "Damn... I can’t remember."

"That is okay, you can just study it again when you get back." Jace chuckled as he started up the truck. He then pulled away from the curve and began driving down the road. "Now then we will-"

Boom!

There was an explosion in the distance. Not just a few miles away but far in the distance. It was up to the curvature of the colony. It looked like an entire building had blown up. Nothing else blew up after that first initial explosion. So Jace just ignored it and kept driving to their destination.

Fortunately that explosion was in the opposite direction of where they were going. So he would not have to worry about it. But the direction it came from was the more wealthy residential district. There was a good chance that this was related to the orius.

As he drove through a few roads they slowly climbed until they reached an angle they could just make out where his garage was. "What do you think those explosions are?" Allie asked from the truck bed.

Jace glanced up to see the explosions had continued. He was so focused on driving that he did not notice. But there were a few more explosions and it was not just in wealthy residential districts either. He could see explosions spreading out over multiple other areas on the colony station.

It was nothing that could compromise the station. But it was still a bit too much. The smoke clouds had already begun to gather in the center of the colony structure. It was looking like a giant black cloud at this point.

Jace decided to just ignore it as they pulled up to a parking space across the street from the chosen restaurant. As soon as he parked they all began climbing out of the vehicle. They walked up to the entrance of a glass window restaurant. The people inside were dressed in suits and extravagant dresses.

Jace walked up to the podium at the entrance and the person at the entrance looked him over with a raised eyebrow. He was in a tuxedo with a twirly mustache. Jace could even tell that he was wearing fake hair. A cheap hairpiece compared to the treatments that someone could easily get.

"Sir... you and your... companions are not dressed properly for an establishment of this level." The man pointed out with a sigh. "We do have a dress code." He informed them snidely.

The girls looked at themselves wondering what was wrong, thinking they were wearing clothes that were plenty fancy and cute. Cain tilted his head and slightly turned to Jace to see what he would do. Jace raised an eyebrow and burst into laughter. "Dress code my ass. You do not have a dress code. Now shut up and seat us before I go sit at the bar."
