Chapter 279: Vexical Prime: Roof
Jace walked over to the source and peaked over the edge of the cubicle. Looking down he saw four people who were attempting to hide. They were civilian office workers. Probably people who did not take the evacuation order seriously, which likely ended up saving their lives.
"I am with the Vexical Military, it would be best if you and anyone else in the building left the area. There is a safe evacuation building. Do any of you have a data pad or tablet? Or an operational communication device?" Jace asked as he looked over them. Making sure they were actually civilians.
They had no weapons and unsecured communication devices. But they had been smart enough to switch them off. In addition he found two of them had voluntary cybernetic enhancements useful for data processing. A nanohuman would not need something like that, they were probably immigrants or foreign workers.
"Umm... we have a data pad here." One of the women pulled a data pad off a desk as she stood up shakily. "We have communication devices but they are not secure."
"Then ditch them." Jace picked up the data pad from her hand and transferred the location of the Mercenary Boss’ building to it and the route to get there. "I suggest you leave in a hurry, this building is going to be a battle zone in less than an hour." Jace explained before tossing back the data pad.
"Aren’t you going to escort us?" One of them asked. He was a chubbier man which was impressive since nanohumans were typically forced to stay fit because of the system. He must both be low level and have bad habits. "It is your job as a soldier to escort us."
"No it is not, now I suggest you hurry. While it is raining there will be less military patrols but it will not be long before that changes. Those of you without systems should cover up, the rain has turned chemical in nature." Jace informed them before turning and walking back to the stairs.
He had to get started, the plan would soon commence. Or more likely it had already started and he would just be kicking off his part of the plan. He ignored the chubby man’s pleas as he walked into the stairwell and climbed up to the roof.
The roof door was a metal door. He tried pushing it open but it only moved a sliver before slamming into something. Jace tried to gently push it open with some force. But it did not work. So he blacked up and kicked the door with enough force to bend normal metal.
The door bent from the impact and slid forward. He could also hear a loud screech as something large was moved. He was able to move the door to the side now that it was off its hinges. Jace could now see the reason the door was blocked.
A fighter craft had crash landed on the roof of the building. Part of its wing had been blocking the door. When he had kicked the door he had moved the entire craft. A look around the roof revealed the damage it had done to the building. The roof was riddled with cracks.
The fighter craft was simple with a cockpit that could only fit a pilot and copilot. The fighter craft had markings and emblems indicating that it was part of the New Hexarian Republic. The damage to the craft was a set of scorch marks along the rear of the craft. It appears that the engine was blown up which in turn blew up the fuel line along the side of the craft. The cockpit was damaged in the crash, the pilot was dead. His head was split in two after slamming into the cockpit canopy. But there was a trail of blood from the copilot’s seat down the side of the craft.
He followed it and found a person hidden under one of the rings. His complexion was pale and he had a bandage covering a bleeding wound. He was clearly nearing death and passed out while patching himself up.
Jace grabbed him by the scruff and pulled him out from under the wing. He then dropped him and brought his boot up and slammed it down. Cruising the enemy copilot’s head under his boot. There were usually rules regarding injured enemies and rules of engagement. But since they have declared an unlawful war they are treated as pirates and lack the rights soldiers usually would have.
He stepped away from the corpse and moved to the edge of the roof. He pulled the tri-cannon off his shoulder and rested it against the edge of the roof. He could see the Talus Mercenary building from his position. More specifically, he could see the front entrance of the building.
Then he looked in another direction and he could see the ’holy palace’ that the Holy Empire soldiers had erected. It was acting as their base of operations. It would also be the perfect target for him to shoot at.
He loaded the tri-cannon connected to the chain of cannon bullets. Then he moved to the highest point and aimed. He first aimed for the cross they had on the roof of the holy palace. He would adjust his aim from there.
"Spectre Jace to mercenaries and others. Operation is beginning." Jace sent out the message over the mercenary channels. Along with the Union channels and a Vexical Military channel that was still open. He was sure that other countries’ militaries were listening to the Vexical Military channel since it was no longer secure. But the message was too vague for them to understand while at the same time he was spoofing the message to make it seem like it came from Talus Mercenary base.
He did not need the confirmation from the others to begin the operation. He instead fired three shots toward the Holy Empire’s visible base. It was impressive that they set up a building in such a short time. But considering how much slave force they use they were probably building it from the moment they landed.
