Chapter 285: Vexical Prime: Moving Civilians
There was just a simple rope connecting the four of them. Jace moved at the front of the pack and quietly moved past the pair of guards that were on duty. Slipping noiselessly through the front gate. The three Union pilots that were behind him seemed to be able to do this better than most soldiers.
Which made sense because they were used to sneaking around. It was more in relation to their status as a terrorist group. It was a good skill for them to have though.
Jace was able to expand his invisibility over them because of the rope that tied them together. So they were able to move past the Holy Empire guards and into the enemy compound. It was still chaos as they were clearly making preparations to dig in. Unfortunately they had already made a mistake.
But it was less their mistake and more of a mistake on their lack of knowledge. They had failed to account for invisible enemies. To be fair the technology was relatively new to humans. The theory and idea was there, but the actual development of the technology was still a secret.
Jace was taking advantage of this fact to walk right into the enemy compound and right towards the prison ships that were off to one side. He frowned as he noticed as they approached that there was mud surrounding the ramps of the prison ships.
That will probably end up being a problem. But for now he was more focused on navigating through the crowd. They made it halfway to the ships when he encountered an issue. A person suddenly turned around and ran right into the rope he was using to keep him connected to the others. He bounced back and slammed into the ground.
Jace sped up the pace while people around began looking at the guy who seemingly tripped and fell on his ass. Jace glanced out the side to make sure they did not pick up on their screw up as they moved across the base.
Eventually arriving at the farthest ship. As he walked up the muddy ground squelched and then made boot print tracks as he walked up onto the ship. Once they were on the ship he untied the rope and they appeared. The Union pilots quietly united themselves and moved through the ship while Jace stayed invincible near the ramp of the slave transport vessel.
He watched and made sure no one else approached as the others cleared the ship. He could hear grunts and choking noises. While there were several of the imprisoned civilians sucking in breaths of air. After a few minutes two of the Union pilots walked back, hopefully leaving the third one to pilot this transport.
Jace moved over and appeared for a moment as he handed them a rope. Then he turned invisible and began walking down the ramp. The others followed him down and then splashing through the mud and to the other transport’s ramp. This time as soon as they were up it they let go of the rope and quickly walked into the ship.
Jace turned his attention back to the compound. There was a sudden explosion somewhere beyond the gate of the compound. That would be the attack from the Union soldiers that were around the Holy Empire base. They should be initiating a skirmish that would keep them on edge and focused on what is going on outside of the base. Ignorant of the theft of their prison transports.
After a few minutes he could see most of the enemies moving to the edges of the compound while explosions began getting closer. It was distracting most of the enemies. But as the Union pilot began walking towards the rear of the ramp he saw an enemy troop glance in their direction.
He actually recognized the enemy, he had seen them a few times before. It was the same female enemy soldier that had those drones forming wings for her. He might have damaged her mech too badly if she was not racing to jump in it and use it. But now she was coming near the ships and he had to hope she would not try to investigate further.
After a moment he moved to the last Union pilot who was beginning to look around nervously. He put a hand on his shoulder and began moving him out of the ship and down the ramp. He hesitated at the bottom of the ramp and waited for the angel enemy to look away. Which she did after a moment when a bigger explosion occurred.
He then began walking with the last Union pilot through the muddy ground toward the last ship. But as they almost arrived at the ramp he saw the enemy soldier glance over her shoulder then she completely spun around and threw her hands forward. Jace watched with a feeling of surprise as those things that made up her wings came off her back and flew toward him.
Jace grabbed the Union pilot and threw him up into the ship while he spun around. Raising the tri-cannon and aiming at the enemy. It was overkill but behind her was one of the structures they were using as a fortification.
The bullet shell flew through the air. Appearing as soon as it left the barrel while his body shimmered into existence for a moment. Then he fully appeared another moment later as he disabled his invisibility feature.
His bullet slammed into the drones she sent toward him first. It tore through and destroyed the first one. Then it slightly tilted after hitting the second one. Then it missed the rest and flew right through the angel enemy.
She flipped through the air after getting hit and he could hear a guttural scratch followed by an explosion as it impacted something. But he was flying backwards and slamming into the transport ramp as those flying objects slammed into his chest and bounced off them. At the last moment he saw hard light structures form over them.
But after the enemy soldier went down they all flew back toward her body. Even the partially damaged ones began flicking and trying to fly back to her.
