Chapter 1052: Chapter 1052: Should Female Celebrities Keep Trash?
Alfred Scott heard his sister’s question and quickly put his phone into his pants pocket, “Just a sales call, don’t worry about it.”
“A sales call? A sales call makes you this nervous?” Mary Scott didn’t believe her brother. She didn’t think Alfred Scott was the type to get nervous over a sales call. She extended her hand toward Alfred Scott, “Give me the phone.”
“It’s really just a sales call, sis, don’t be like this. I’m just experiencing life.” Alfred Scott said with a dumb smile, trying to cover it up.
But Mary Scott was already suspicious of the call, and it was impossible for Alfred Scott to bluff past her. She stood up and looked sternly at her brother, “Give me the phone.”
Her voice was clearly angry.
Since childhood, Alfred Scott relied on Mary Scott, and although he couldn’t say he was completely obedient to her, he never dared to argue when she was angry. However, this time he was slow to hand over the phone to Mary Scott.
Mary Scott understood the situation; her face became even darker. She looked coldly at her brother, “I’ll say it again, give me the phone!”
Seeing his sister really angry, Alfred Scott helplessly lowered his head, “Sis…”
Mary Scott said nothing, still looking coldly at her brother.
Feeling his sister’s coldness, Alfred Scott lowered his head even further but still didn’t hand the phone to Mary Scott. At that moment, the phone rang again.
Before Alfred Scott could react, Mary Scott directly snatched his phone and pressed the speaker phone.
“Alfred, did you talk to your sister? Mom really needs your help. The money you gave is not enough at all. Mom is begging you, talk to your sister, she has so much money, can she help mom? Mom can’t hold on…” Linda Nelson’s voice sounded as soon as the call connected.
Mary Scott’s face darkened, shocked as she looked at her brother and listened to the greedy, fake, and insincere voice of the woman on the phone, her heart grew cold. She fought off nausea and forced herself to suppress her anger, speaking calmly to the woman on the phone,
“I told you last time, don’t disturb me, and don’t disturb Alfred’s life. From the time you decided not to want us, we no longer have any relationship with you. I owe you nothing, Alfred owes you nothing.”
“Is that you, Moll? How can you be so heartless? I’m your biological mother!” Linda Nelson said angrily, with some excitement.
“Biological mother? When you abandoned us, did you consider you were our biological mother? When you come back after more than ten years and the first thing you want is money from us, did you consider you were our biological mother?” Mary Scott asked sarcastically.
Linda Nelson pretended to cry over the phone, “How can you bear such a grudge against your biological mother? What child holds such a grudge against their mother! I just want you to help mom. Do you have to say such harsh words? Don’t forget, you’re a movie star. If people find out you abandoned your mother, what would they think?”
The last sentence was spoken in a low voice by Linda Nelson, but there was already a hint of threat in it. Mary Scott found it laughable, “A movie star? So what? Should a movie star support trash? Don’t come to Alfred anymore, or don’t blame me for being unkind.”
After speaking, Mary Scott directly hung up the phone and then blocked Linda Nelson’s number from Alfred Scott’s phone.
After doing these things, Mary Scott looked at her brother with an extremely cold expression. Alfred Scott felt like he was covered in thorns being watched by his sister. He uneasily clutched his hands, trying to explain several times but didn’t know where to start. In the end, he could only lower his eyes and sit on the chair dejectedly.
Mary Scott saw her brother’s pathetic state and was both angry and helpless. After a while, she finally spoke, “Do you still have lingering feelings for her?”
They were abandoned by Linda Nelson when her brother was still young. Mary Scott thought she had taught her brother well enough to distinguish right from wrong and wasn’t gullible or overly altruistic. But she didn’t expect him to be like this in front of Linda Nelson!
Not only did he let her trick him into giving money to Linda Nelson, but also neglected his health, working three jobs a day outside. She really didn’t know whether to call her brother foolish or just foolish.
Hearing his sister’s question, Alfred Scott lowered his head even more. He wanted to explain that wasn’t the case, but the other party had used his sister to threaten him, which led to these mistakes. But he didn’t want his sister to know that he had sacrificed so much for her, and yes, it was indeed foolish. He could only keep his head down and continue pretending to be a quail.
Seeing her brother’s cowardly appearance, Mary Scott felt a surge of anger and spoke coldly, “I don’t care what you think or whether you have lingering feelings for her. From today on, don’t answer her calls, and don’t give her a cent, got it?”
“Got it.” Alfred Scott answered quickly this time.
Mary Scott looked at her brother with complex emotions, “I am serious when talking to you. If you can’t do this, then from now on, go live with her and don’t recognize me as your sister anymore.”
Her words startled Alfred Scott into urgently calling out, “Sis…”
“You know I’m not joking. If she came back this time seeking reconciliation with either of us siblings or showed even a slightest hint of regret toward us siblings, I wouldn’t force you to be so resolute. But you heard yourself just now, what is her purpose? What is there worth for us to hold onto from such a person?” Mary Scott said without emotion, ignoring her brother’s eagerness.
Suddenly, Alfred Scott thought of a possibility, “Sis, did she ask you for money before?”
Mary Scott glanced at him, “Do you think she asked you because she got nothing from me, and then decided to go after you, because you are an easy target.”
Alfred Scott felt both hurt and angry upon hearing this, “How can she be like this, how can she do this, she is our biological mother…”
As he continued speaking, Alfred Scott’s words grew weaker. Suddenly, he thought of his life during this period, a sarcastic smile unconsciously appearing on his lips. Indeed, wasn’t it because of her threats that he tricked his sister and worked hard to earn money to return to her?
Seeing her brother’s lost look, Mary Scott felt increasingly pained. She lightly patted her brother’s shoulder, “Some things I didn’t need to say, you should understand in your heart. From the moment she threw away us siblings, she stopped being our mother. Now, her return is only for herself. Wake up.”
“I know,” Alfred Scott replied lowly, then remembered Linda Nelson’s threat, “Do we really not need to worry about her? Didn’t you hear what she said last?”
“I thought you were too naive to figure it out,” Mary Scott glared at her brother without good humor.
Alfred Scott lowered his head ashamedly; he undoubtedly knew the ulterior motives behind Linda Nelson’s return and her intentions in seeking him out were insincere. However, he did not expect that she had already approached his sister and, upon failing to succeed, found him in order to use him to deceive Mary Scott for money.
“How much did you give her in total?” Mary Scott looked at her brother and took a deep breath before asking.
Alfred Scott honestly put up three fingers.
Mary’s eyes widened instantly, “Three hundred thousand? You actually gave her three hundred thousand, aside from the two hundred thousand you tricked from your brother-in-law, where did the remaining hundred thousand come from?”
Seeing his sister’s expression, Alfred unconsciously licked his lips, “Just… just… the money saved from daily expenses and part-time job wages.”
“Ha…” Mary was so angry that she laughed. She worked hard to send him to school, afraid he would be cold, hungry, or poor, and what did he do? Worked hard, starved himself, scrimped and saved, only to give the money to that woman, who then used their money to support her new husband and son.
Hearing his sister’s cynical laughter, Alfred wished he could bury his head under the table.
While the brother and sister were in a tense silence, a knock came from the door. Only then did Mary suppress her anger and shout, “Come in.”
After the waiter had served the dishes, Mary suddenly whispered something to the waiter, who shortly after brought back a bunch of thoroughly washed coriander.
Having been working since seven in the morning, Alfred was starving, and the sight of the delicious food on the table was impossible to resist. He sneaked a glance at Mary preparing to dig in, but suddenly saw her holding a bunch of coriander, slowly tearing it and sprinkling it over each dish on the table.
Instantly, Alfred’s expression changed. He watched his sister’s actions painfully, looking at each dish covered with coriander, and couldn’t help but wail, “Sis… why take your anger out on the food instead of me!”
He said with a face full of anguish.
Mary sneered, “Don’t call me sis, I don’t measure up to Our Lady of Paris. Besides, I ordered this food, I’ll add whatever I want.”
Hearing his sister’s words, Alfred looked helplessly but couldn’t do anything about Mary, only watched as she continued to ruin those delicious dishes. As someone who had hated coriander since he was a child, he felt like his sister had thrown dung over the food.
So disgusting!
However, at this moment, even if Alfred’s heart was aching, there was nothing he could do. After all, Mary was right, these were the dishes she ordered.
After covering every dish with chopped coriander, Mary slowly took out her chopsticks and began to eat.
After she had eaten several dishes, she glanced coldly at Alfred who hadn’t moved his chopsticks yet, “What’s the matter, not only a saint now, starting to learn to live on dew like a fairy?”
With no other choice, Alfred picked up his chopsticks. The food that had been so tempting moments ago now seemed tasteless. Each bite he took, he closed his eyes in anguish.
Seeing her brother’s distressed look, Mary slammed her chopsticks onto the table, “Eat properly!”
This time Alfred dared not disobey, obediently taking big bites.
After the meal, Mary took Alfred and made him resign from the two physically demanding jobs, leaving only a part-time job related to his major, then said coldly, “From today on, you’re responsible for your own life. The two hundred thousand you tricked from your brother-in-law will be paid back in installments after you graduate.”
Alfred didn’t care about whether his sister gave him money for living expenses, he was afraid that she would abandon him. He hurriedly grabbed Mary’s hand, “Sis, don’t abandon me. I’ve realized my mistake, please don’t be angry anymore, alright…”
“I’m not angry; I just think you’re not young anymore, you should be independent.” Mary’s tone was still indifferent.
Alfred felt sad but didn’t know how to explain to his sister. He could only follow Mary step by step towards the school with his head down, but to their surprise, as they reached the dormitory building, they saw Linda Nelson waiting for him.
Their expressions changed simultaneously, both looking less than pleased.
Unlike the siblings, Linda seemed to have forgotten Mary’s warnings over the phone. She enthusiastically rushed over, “Moll, Alfred, finally I see you, mom has missed you both so much!”
Linda’s act was vivid, as if she really was a mother overwhelmed with joy at finally seeing her children.
Mary and Alfred, however, didn’t play along with her performance, and they just quietly watched Linda.
Linda, not getting a response, wasn’t bothered, and began her monologue, “Moll, Alfred, mom has missed you both so much. Why don’t you answer mom’s calls? Mom had her reasons for everything in the past! Mom never meant to abandon you. When everything happened back then, mom was scared too. Will you forgive mom…”
Saying that, tears welled up in Linda’s eyes. It was class break time, and there were many students passing by the dormitory building. Alfred, being handsome and previously revealed as Mary’s brother, was somewhat famous at school. Next to him, Mary, even though wrapped tightly, had a star’s aura that ordinary people couldn’t compare to. The presence of Linda drew even more attention.
In no time, many people started to look their way.
Realizing something was wrong, Alfred grabbed Linda’s arm harshly, “What are you trying to do?”
Linda was startled by her son’s sudden coldness, but immediately realized this was perfect. She quickly suppressed her triumphant expression and with her other hand, she gripped Alfred’s hand tighter, “Alfred, it’s mom, it’s mom. Mom knows she’s done you wrong, please don’t be angry with mom, okay? Mom realizes her mistake…”
“Let go of me!” Alfred said, shaking Linda off. He wasn’t stupid. Although he initially held onto some hope, once she started asking for money, and subtly threatened him with his sister’s stardom, all his fantasies shattered. Concerned for him, Mary seemed unconcerned with those threats; therefore, what was there for him to be afraid of? Does she really think he’s the Virgin Mary?
Linda was shaken off by Alfred and fell to the ground, looking at him in shock, “Alfred, how can you treat mom like this? Mom has realized her mistakes; please don’t be angry with mom anymore…”
The commotion wasn’t small, and with Linda deliberately amplifying her voice, a number of people had started to point and whisper about Alfred and Mary.
Mary had been coldly watching Linda’s performance all along, and seeing her fall to the ground only made her icy gaze grow colder. This woman was scheming against them.
