Chapter 1114
I confided in Nick
“Well, I’ll see you later, Claire.”
“Yes. I will go on ahead.”
When we reached the plaza in Ractos, I separated from Claire and the others temporarily.
The fenrirs would wait with the horses, while I would go to Mr. Kalis’s store with Leo, Liza and Tilura. Claire and the servants would head to the public office in order to make preparations.
“Excuse me. Ah, there he is… Mr. Kalis.”
“Ah, Mr. Takumi. Welcome to our store. I heard about your business today. Hey, go and call Nick for me!”
“Certainly!”
While leaving Leo and the others outside, I entered the store with Alfred.
I had told them in advance that I wanted to talk about Nick’s salary, and also about the herb fields in Range village etcetera.“Mr. Kalis. This is Mr. Alfred. My new head butler.”
“Head butler? Indeed… I am sure we will be meeting often then. My name is Kali. The duke and Lady Claire had put me in charge of their stores within Ractos.”
“I am Alfred. I have heard a lot about you… A true master of his craft.”
“No, you are exaggerating. I was merely lucky to be able to work with Mr. Takumi.”
As we were waiting for Nick to come, I introduced Alfred to Mr. Kalis.
Since he was the head butler, he would be contacting business partners for me in the future.
Alfred already knew about Mr. Kalis… It wasn’t that surprising, since this was one of the duke’s stores.
Mr. Ekenhart had a lot of trust in him, and so Alfred held him in high regard as well.
“Brother!”
“Ah, Nick.”
I heard his voice as he came out from the back. And so I introduced him to Alfred, and then we moved to the subject at hand.
“A round trip from Range village will take a few days.”
“Indeed…”
First, we talked about whether we would have Nick come to Range village, just as he came to the mansion.
He was enthusiastic about doing it, but Mr. Kalis looked less positive… After all, he would have little time to work at the store if he traveled so often.
It took two to three days to travel to Range village by horse.
If you included a day of rest, that could be seven days. And then he would have to repeat the journey.
From what I had heard, Nick was working well within the store. Some of the customers even liked him. Which was a little surprising.
“In that case, I have an idea. Well, it depends on Nick… Nick, are you still afraid of Leo?”
“Ah, uh…she does look like she might crush me if I cause you any trouble… But I’m not so scared that I can’t approach her.”
“Good.”
A way to prevent Nick from being just a transporter… The first thing was to increase the amount he could carry at once.
If the herbs wouldn’t sell out as quickly in Ractos, then he would have more days before having to go to Range village again.
Furthermore, if he rode on a fenrir, the round trip would be two days, which would give him much more time.
“Fenris…I see. I heard from Mr. Sebastian. About how things and people can be carried with the cooperation of the fenrirs.”
In a way, this could be a proof of concept.
Besides, it would be better for the fenrirs to be able to carry Nick and see how they like it, instead of immediately putting them to work…
“In that case, it might be possible with a few adjustments.”
“Yes. What do you think, Nick?”
“I don’t know… I am a little worried. But I will do my best to not disappoint you!”
With Mr. Kalis’s agreement, it was decided that Nick would be in charge of transporting the herbs after all.
It was then that I remembered that I had one other thing to tell him…
