Mysterious Journey

Chapter 950 Demonic Pet (Part 2)

Newt Scamander is a universally recognized magizoologist in the wizarding world.

He is also, to date, the only wizard to have received the Order of Merlin, Second Class for his academic achievements in the field of magical creatures.

The Order of Merlin, First Class, is usually reserved for major figures with significant magical accomplishments or political standing, roughly akin to the Nobel Peace Prize or the Soviet Union's "Gold Star Medal." Among its recipients are many great individuals, but also politicians and wealthy individuals who have managed to get their names on the list...

The Third Class, meanwhile, is for individuals who have contributed to entertainment and knowledge reserves.

In Ellena's view, the upper limit is roughly equivalent to a lifetime achievement award at the Oscars or the Nobel Prize in Literature, while the lower limit is at least equivalent to entertainment awards like the later generations' top 100 up-loaders—for example, Gilderoy Lockhart holds an Order of Merlin, Third Class.

However, the distribution of the three classes of the Order of Merlin resembles an hourglass.

Compared to the First and Third Class, the Second Class is awarded much less frequently.

As such, if you were to talk about average gold content, the Order of Merlin, Second Class, is undoubtedly the most substantial.

The conditions for obtaining this medal are very simple: a groundbreaking academic discovery, or... becoming the recognized number one in a certain field of this era.

The former is relatively easy to understand. Damocles, one of the current Hogwarts Potions professors, obtained a Second Class medal for his invention of the "Wolfsbane Potion." And if Professor McGonagall's theory is eventually validated, she could also receive a medal without much surprise.

But the field of magizoology is completely different from the previous two. Newt can only obtain the medal through one path.

Before this, Ellena did not understand the vast difference between the two.

However, during the "Initial Sprite Project" discussion tonight, she clearly felt Newt's strength.

In just over ten minutes, under Ellena's layered demands, Newt unhesitatingly proposed at least twenty or thirty magical creature options that perfectly matched her various strange requirements. He could also analyze the potential problems that might arise when they were together based on different situations. This high-intensity professional field confrontation ultimately exposed her age disadvantage, to the point where the leadership fell entirely into the hands of the old freckled fellow.

"...Well, so after this discussion, we'll tentatively settle on these four magical creatures?"

Newt cleared his throat, looking at the girl not far away who had admitted defeat for the first time, and slowly breathed a sigh of relief in his heart.

In fact, he was far from as relaxed as he appeared.

Whether it was Mortrats, Fwoopers, Augureys, Billywigs—low-risk but full of uncertain traps magical creatures—or Nifflers, Thestrals, Grindylows—slightly niche medium-sized creatures—Ellena's suggestions often hid hidden agendas.

However, since all of Ellena's knowledge reserves, or rather "weapons," came from *Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them*,

after he casually admitted that he had written something incorrectly in the book at the time, it unexpectedly directly ended Ellena's subsequent offensive.

"Yes, they perfectly correspond to the four Hogwarts houses, I don't think there's any point of contention—"

Ellena shrugged, looking up at the somewhat blurry four silhouettes in mid-air.

For top wizards like Newt, the principle of "Binary Reversion Architecture Transformation Magic" is not complicated. After a little thought, they can create similar audio-visual effects with their profound magical foundation. This has been the norm during their interactions recently.

Obviously, the effect of generating graphics and text out of thin air is more than ten times more intuitive than simple verbal descriptions.

Niffler, Ice Viper, Blue-Tailed Raven, Mandragora Cat.

These are the "initial pet" options that Newt ultimately gave after synthesizing Ellena's various刁难 (diāo nán - deliberately making things difficult)

Apart from the Niffler that Ellena was already very familiar with, the other magical creatures also fit the standard of initial sprites.

For example, the Ice Viper is a super-small magical viper. Compared to its relatives in the non-magical world, it has extraordinary cold resistance. On the other hand, although its venom is one of the most potent toxins, it takes as long as six to seven hours from onset to death, which is a fairly safe range in Hogwarts. Even the venom of the Venomous Tentacula is stronger than it.

The Blue-Tailed Raven is a magical subspecies of Raven in the wizarding world. It is not too aggressive, but it has a special characteristic: it is one of the few small creatures that can learn human language. The intelligence of an adult Blue-Tailed Raven is at least equivalent to that of a twelve or thirteen-year-old child.

Many alchemists often like to keep a Blue-Tailed Raven as an assistant, responsible for dealing with some trivial social interactions in daily life.

As for the origins and restrictions of the Mandragora Cat, they are much greater. It exists as an animal guard in the French Ministry of Magic.

Although a single one may not be as big as Mrs. Norris, once they reach adulthood, they can autonomously split when attacked, and the number of splits depends on the magical area it guards, its own magic power, and the blessing effect given to it by its owner.

Overall, these are all small and easy-to-like pets.

"However, Professor Scamander, are you really not considering those supplementary suggestions I mentioned?"

Ellena pondered for half a second, then looked up at Newt expectantly, making one last attempt.

"These are entry-level magical creatures. If we plan to build a complete system, then we should build some advanced frameworks from the very beginning? For example, raising some Runespoors in Slytherin, raising some Occamys in Ravenclaw, as for Hufflepuff, I'm a bit hesitant whether to choose a Manticore or not, as for Gryffindor..."

"A Griffin or a Hippogriff? Why don't you just raise a Zouwu—"

Newt Scamander's mouth twitched, and he said unpleasantly.

He originally thought that he was already quite crazy in the field of magizoology, but compared to Ellena, he was indeed too cautious and restrained in the past. If it weren't for the fact that there was only one phoenix, Newt suspected that Ellena even wanted to popularize phoenixes on a large scale in the school.

As for what "Dragon Sanctuary Relocation Plan," "Cerberus Rescue Plan," "Basilisk Breeding Base"...

In Ellena's mind, it seems that raising a dragon is the same concept as raising a fire salamander.

"Zouwu? Is it really possible? That would be the best!"

Ellena's eyes lit up, and she unhesitatingly climbed up the pole, saying.

"Of course not! Cough, at least not yet."

Newt quickly cut off Ellena's unrealistic thoughts, coughed lightly, and tried to guide the topic back to the main point.

"Well, where were we just now? Now that the initial magical creatures have been determined, how do you plan to proceed with the subsequent breeding and adoption process, and what about the future... Well, what about the advancement plan? These cannot be neglected."

As the president of the Magical Creature Association, the Magical Creature Protection Association... and a host of other associations, he is also starting to get used to some of Ellena's statements.

If Ellena was party A just now, then from now on, the positions of the two have been reversed.

"It's very simple, uniformly concentrated in 'Helga's Dungeon' for breeding. This is currently the best choice."

Ellena said unhurriedly, pointing to the vast underground world around.

"On the other hand, Hogwarts teachers and students can also participate in the process of caring for, observing, and breeding these little lives. I think witnessing the birth of life is a very good way to educate—unfortunately, we didn't have many opportunities before. Of course, this is just an additional teaching benefit. In the exploration stage, a series of conditions will be temporarily attached to select the most suitable group of little wizards."

"Additional conditions?" Newt raised his eyebrows, asking curiously.

"Well, roughly divided into three aspects."

Ellena nodded, raised three fingers, and explained seriously.

"First of all, there are hard indicators in terms of knowledge, which are based on the scores of the Care of Magical Creatures class. In the future, it may be adjusted to a qualification certificate for magical creature training. This way, at least it can ensure that 'the chosen children' have the most basic knowledge about magical creatures."

"Next is the activity indicator. You should have noticed that Hogwarts has started a credit system this semester."

"Various school competitions and achievements, as well as daily comprehensive performance, these can be converted into numerical standards for reference, and students can use these points to exchange for the rewards they want, including the 'assessment qualification' for choosing 'initial pets'. There is no happiness or preciousness in the harvest without effort. You don't want the little wizards to treat those magical creatures casually, do you?"

"Exchange... 'assessment qualification'?" Newt nodded thoughtfully, "So, the third aspect is 'assessment'?"

"That's right, the number of 'initial pets' we have at the beginning won't be too many—on the one hand, it's for tracking and recording, and on the other hand, it's to create an environment of hunger marketing. Perhaps in the future this project will gradually be opened to various magical families, and even ten-year-old pre-school wizards will be qualified to receive it in advance, but it's obviously not possible now. It's still in the experimental and promotional period..."

In Ellena's vision, in the future wizarding world, magical creature masters like Newt would become commonplace.

Undetectable Extension Charms, small-scale Weather Charms, and miniature ecosystem stabilization, these spells have been around for a long time.

If the alchemy side can break through the technological barriers and have the opportunity to produce "simplified versions of Scamander's suitcase" in a streamlined manner, that will be another revolution that completely subverts the wizarding world and the magical creature world. The magical glory of ancient times may return to this world in a completely new form.

Even at that time, the boundary between the magical world and the non-magical world will not be so important.

For example, when Ellena encountered Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest last semester, she almost completed a counter-kill relying on the three-headed dog Little Lo-Wei (Lǔ Wèi - braised flavor).

However, in this era, apart from Ellena, no one can clearly imagine the new world in Ellena's mind.

Perhaps Luna, Hannah, Hermione, and others will understand some of it, and Newt Scamander, who watched more than a dozen episodes of "Original Version Dumb Stuff" during the summer vacation, may also be able to roughly guess part of it, but the forms in their minds are inevitably too simple—you should know that the ways to summon magical servants are not limited to red and white balls. Cards, magic circles... the future Muggle world has provided too many interesting paths.

"Triple screening, it sounds like it's fairly rigorous."

Newt Scamander pondered for a while, his expression gradually easing, and nodded lightly.

"However, this also means that the content in the Care of Magical Creatures class will have to be increased, and the difficulty of this course will increase a lot—"

"No, it means that the Care of Magical Creatures class, as an elective course, is likely to be canceled."

Ellena shook her head, admiring the surprised expression of the old freckled fellow for a second, raised her finger and continued.

"Obviously, the Magizoology course is qualified to be upgraded to a required course—the content we teach and learn in this course may no longer be limited to how to recognize and protect them, but also includes how to cultivate, defend, fight, communicate... and other comprehensive fields."

"Just like Charms, Potions, and Herbology, Magizoology is an extremely important part of magical civilization."

Ellena's lake-blue eyes stared at Newt, her expression gradually becoming serious, and she said in a deep voice.

"Professor Scamander, if it's just for supplementing the teaching of Care of Magical Creatures, there's no need for a top scholar like you to return to the school to teach. Whether it's Mr. Hagrid, Professor Burnet, or Professor Grallamp, they can all handle the original educational work—but they can't support the reshaping of a field, and the founding of the Magizoology system can only be completed by you personally."

"It seems I won't be able to retire for a while?"

Newt shrugged helplessly, sighing with a complicated expression and a light laugh.

This is simply a devil's invitation. Even though he knows there are traps hidden in it, even if he might burn out the rest of his time at Hogwarts, he still has no room to refuse in the face of the future described by Ellena—this is much more powerful than Grindelwald back then.

If it weren't for still believing in Dumbledore, Newt would have even thought that Ellena was specially trained by Grindelwald to take revenge on him.

After all, this little witch...

"But I still have a small question, if you can answer me, I would be very grateful."

Newt paused for a few seconds, gave Ellena a meaningful look, and asked softly.

"Gringotts' acquisition of Puffskeins should have ended a few months ago. Why did I hear from Hornes and them last week that new orders have appeared on the market? Has the Gringotts Wizarding Bank received any news about these things?"
