Mysterious Journey
Chapter 889: Potion Master? Professional!
In the dungeons of the potions classroom, Professor Snape waved his wand, emptying the cauldron of its contents.
Adding unrelated substances to a potion can cause unpredictable changes in its properties. Professor Snape already knew the final result of this particular concoction, so he didn't intend to wait for the toxic fumes to dissipate.
Potions is a very special kind of magic, and the form it ultimately takes depends largely on the will of the brewer.
One point Professor Snape didn't mention during the demonstration was that:
Simply extracting the essence of "death" only gave the potion the factor of being perceptible by ghosts.
However, how to add it at the right time, and how to choose the right materials, techniques, and corresponding processes to combine a controllable potion, was something he hadn't yet figured out—which is also the current direction of research at Hogwarts.
"Alright, I'm sure most of you didn't understand what I just did… Of course, I didn't expect you to anyway. Before you learn to extract magical elements and explore the true mysteries of the world, you must first learn how to properly use a cauldron to brew potions—so, Mr. Harry Potter, do you have any questions?"
Professor Snape narrowed his eyes, adopting a dangerous, threatening expression.
Unlike previous classroom Q&A sessions, Harry stood his ground and didn't immediately sit down.
"When can we learn this knowledge?"
"If you are outstanding enough, perhaps after you graduate from seventh year…"
Professor Snape said, smiling maliciously, "Even those returning magical masters might not be able to learn it. This will be one of the latest certification standards for potions masters. The specific form is still being discussed by the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts."
"Potions master… certification?"
Harry paused for half a second, instinctively asking with curiosity.
"You didn't raise your hand. If it happens again, Gryffindor loses five points—"
Professor Snape glanced around the class, frowning slightly, his black eyes flashing a warning.
This wasn't like their private lessons in the potions professor's office. Harry Potter's state today was a little off, and he needed to remind the boy to not be too presumptuous.
"That's right, this is the official certification standard for potions masters."
Snape said softly, a mocking sneer appearing on his pale face, "Potions masters, what is a potions master? In the magical world, any wizard who can heat a cauldron and brew a potion can call themselves that. The title is just like 'Mr.' or 'Ms.'… But starting next year, this chaotic situation will gradually improve."
"Obviously, not everyone is qualified to peddle potions on the magical market."
"On the other hand, based on the knowledge inheritance and potential future social problems, it is also necessary to open up systemic study and research of certain advanced potions in a graded and layered manner—for example, there is a book in the Hogwarts restricted section called *Moste Potente Potions*, which records many powerful but also extremely complex and dangerous potions. Mr. Harry Potter?"
Harry raised his hand, and after Snape paused his explanation and nodded at him, he continued,
"So, will we be able to learn these difficult potions at Hogwarts in the future?"
"Only a very few people," Snape said, his eyes scanning the faces of the students in the classroom. "In my opinion, as the head of potions at Hogwarts, at least those who achieve excellent grades in their O.W.Ls and N.E.W.Ts, and who have published academic papers in some mid-level magical journals, and students who are qualified to return to school for further study are the only ones who will have the opportunity..."
"As for you all…"
Snape's mouth twitched slightly. He selectively ignored the irritating white-haired puffball sitting in the front row, glanced at the little wizards who were secretly exchanging glances, and threatened.
"If I remember correctly, you have only just completed your first year's basic courses. According to the number of students in Hogwarts' N.E.W.Ts advanced classes in previous years, the attrition rate is roughly 80-90%. If other requirements are considered, then this rate may be even lower—in other words, instead of focusing your energy on these things, you should think about how to pass this semester's final exams. Those who fail will have to repeat a year..."
"But, sir, if we master the relevant knowledge in advance, would you consider teaching us?"
"Oh, yes. Gryffindor loses five points. I warned you, Mr. Potter. Don't interrupt me when I'm speaking."
Snape said coldly, his tone making it clear that the matter was closed.
"But I'm afraid your current level of potions is not yet qualified to consider this matter. There is currently only one student in the second year who has completed the skipping test, and it was only a written test… We have wasted too much time on this question. Sit down and continue working on your toad legs, Mr. Potter, or—are you expecting me to say 'please'?"
"Sorry, Professor."
Harry sat down somewhat awkwardly. This was the first time Professor Snape had deducted points from him in class.
However, compared to other students in Gryffindor, this was already a considerable privilege.
The last "Weasley Twins warriors" who tried to question Professor Snape like this were still muttering curses under their breath every night while scrubbing bedpans in the school infirmary—and the most important thing was that they hadn't gotten an answer yet.
Potions class quickly returned to its normal textbook content.
Snape began to patrol the classroom, supervising the students' potion brewing.
The Hogwarts-Academy City's research on potions has only just begun, and is still in the early stages of analyzing and reverse-engineering the principles of potions. Therefore, there will not be too many new recipes in the potions classroom for the time being—however, under the leadership of the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts, the compilation of the latest version of the textbook has already been put on the agenda for next year.
However, Snape planned to wait and see and decide on the final version of the new textbook based on Harry's performance.
In less than a few minutes, the underground classroom was once again enveloped in the mist rising from the cauldrons.
Amid the swirling smoke, Hermione turned her head to look at the white-haired puffball next to her.
Complex emotions flickered in her bright brown eyes, and she pointed to the cauldron beside the podium, then pointed to Ailina.
"Are you already a potions master?" Hermione's lip movements conveyed that meaning.
Under the overwhelming publicity, and the subtle guidance from the ghosts and professors, it was generally believed that "Ghost Cuisine" was Professor Snape's personal achievement in the field of potions, but this did not include Ailina's little wings.
Hermione and others knew very well that the one who completed "Ghost Cuisine" the earliest was probably this white-haired puffball.
At least those "Ghost Cuisine" dishes at Nick's five-hundredth deathday party were definitely cooked by Ailina herself.
Perhaps Professor Snape had the ability to reproduce those dishes, but with the professor's personality and imagination, he probably wouldn't choose to cook those strange foods—whether it was terrifying cuisine for the living or dishes for the ghosts to taste.
"Master? I'm still some distance away from that title."
Ailina slowly shook her head, glanced at Snape's position, and lowered her voice to answer softly.
"The 'Ghost Cuisine' dishes at the deathday party were all semi-finished products in a strict sense. They were actually completed by me using some clever methods, which are not the techniques required in the 'Potions Master Standard Certification'."
"Clever methods?" Hermione repeated softly, confused.
"Well, ingredients. I used the characteristics of the ingredients—or rather, I deliberately chose some special ingredients with the concept of 'death' and 'decay' to complete the cooking, instead of extracting the source root words like the professor. They were already half a foot outside the world of the living. I just simply performed some enchantments..."
Taking a look at Hermione's increasingly bewildered expression, Ailina's ahoge swayed a few times, and she changed her way of explaining.
"It's like cooking. Using fermented and rotten ingredients to cook is like barbecue. You can complete the dish with a little salt. But if you want to turn braised pork intestines and fragrant braised pork bones into ghost cuisine, it's like extracting the collagen in them and completing a molecular cooking-like special processing mode. The difficulty can be said to be worlds apart."
In fact, there is now a tentative name for this special potion technique work.
[Inactivated Potion]
Specifically refers to a special potion that transforms from the "living" domain to the "ghost" domain in an instant.
Due to the particularity of this type of potion, the brewer cannot even judge whether his operation is successful or not. It is as if a top chef in the kitchen cannot taste the dishes he makes. All the steps are irreversible and cannot be added or deleted. Even the most experienced potion master cannot judge his degree of completion when completing the brewing.
"Quiet—"
Professor Snape's cold voice came from not far away.
The mist permeating the classroom obviously gave many little wizards courage, and the low whispers, like flies buzzing, gradually showed signs of revival, but quickly subsided again under Professor Snape's cold voice.
Obviously, Professor Snape's mood was not very good.
"Hush, I'll tell you tonight—"
Ailina's lip movements said silently to Hermione.
She didn't intend to test the potions professor's patience at this time.
You know, if it hadn't been for bringing out the ultimate weapon of "resurrection," Professor Snape really wasn't a wizard who could be easily won over. Even Dumbledore's orders wouldn't work. Even so, she had to be extra careful.
In the magical world, resurrection can be roughly divided into three types.
The simplest is like Voldemort, who can simply reshape the body and then stuff the soul into it.
The remaining two are relatively more troublesome. Ghosts are those whose soul form has changed. They are neither alive nor dead. In Ailina's vision, if the state can be modified, then perhaps they can return to Voldemort's detached soul state, then there is a chance to be reborn with reference to the former's resurrection method.
And the most troublesome is what most people understand, the true meaning of "bringing the dead back to life."
If one can accurately master the change in properties and create a potion that can affect ghosts and even change the ghost's "file opening method," then it will obviously be a big step forward from the true meaning of resurrection.
Of course, regarding this idea, Ailina has only mentioned it casually for the time being.
At least from Snape's point of view, the research on "Ghost Cuisine," or rather "Inactivated Potions," is mainly in the academic research field of potions and one of the links in the Ministry of Magic's plan to create a professional certification system for the magical world.

…………
At the same time, Hogwarts Headmaster's office.
In the week after Halloween, the main topic of discussion in this room was the potions master certification issue.
The view of promoting professional certification in the magical world is becoming more and more perfect: Cornelius Fudge spent a lot of time discussing the detailed rules with Professor Dumbledore, and used these discussion results to persuade other people in the Ministry of Magic. The Minister increasingly believed that this might be a rare highlight of his tenure—an excellent opportunity to recast the glory of the British magical world.
The Hogwarts Headmaster's office had almost become a temporary Ministry of Magic office.
Grindelwald had considerable opinions on this.
Cornelius Fudge had to come to Hogwarts at least twice a day.
And the most direct impact was that Grindelwald had to hide in the study on the stairs from time to time.
Perhaps that Minister of Magic was not a very smart person, but if he could see Professor Apocalypses reporting his work in the office every time he came to Hogwarts, even a fool would be able to find something wrong.
"I have never seen such a stupid Minister of Magic," Grindelwald said angrily, "When are you changing terms?"
"This can't be blamed on Cornelius," Dumbledore shrugged helplessly. "Many things and regulations are being finalized for the first time. Cornelius is already moving at the fastest speed on issues like this that involve the basic order of the entire magical society."
The influence of Ghost Cuisine was greater than they imagined.
Compared to the waves in the ghost world, as one potions master after another failed to imitate it, the problems in the wizarding world were exposed first—people began to question how many wizards really understood potions, and how much water there was in those expensive potions sold in major stores, crowned with the works of potions masters.
The most important thing was that, in order to seize the opportunity, Cornelius Fudge leaked the idea of the potion professional system in advance.
According to the news returned from the American magical world by Gringotts Wizarding Bank, the MACUSA seems to be discussing whether to establish a potions certification association first, which made Cornelius Fudge and the entire British Ministry of Magic nervous.
They must launch a complete potions professional system before MACUSA speaks out.
And Dumbledore knew even more clearly what the source of this pressure was.
Miss [Fool] issued the last instruction before temporarily "disconnecting." The Heavenly Mandate Group and Gringotts Wizarding Bank needed time to figure out who leaked the secret and the extent of the information leak, sniff out and eliminate the traitor.
During this period, the attention of the Ministry of Magic and various wizarding families obviously could not be entirely focused on Hogwarts.
This complete, complicated framework and marketing combination punch was undoubtedly the best inducement.
