There wasn't much time for Leos to react. Along with the two goblin executioners, a magic mine cart came rumbling out of the darkness along the tracks. Leos got into the cart without changing his expression. One Heliopath sat in the front, and the other sat beside him, gently tapping the carriage with the long scythe in his hand.
The nameless Heliopath emitted a low, rumbling sound, like coal scraping against metal.
"Gringotts Vault No. 997 – Cleaning operation."
Immediately afterward, the magic mine cart lurched into motion, accelerating rapidly, twisting and turning along the maze-like tunnels. The clattering of the cart wheels mingled with the howling wind in the tunnel, as if traveling through the belly of some giant beast.
Leos silently watched the stalactites receding above his head, starting to wonder if he would be branded as the "most foolish elder" in Gringotts' history after his death – or perhaps there was no need to wonder. Regardless of success or failure, this would be his fate, a conclusion reached during the first discussion.
Soon, they descended to the deepest depths of Gringotts, and the magic mine cart stopped at the entrance of the "Goblin Prison."
In the center of the path leading to this special vault, a curtain of water poured down onto the ground with a loud splash.
This was one of Gringotts' most prized magical warning mechanisms, the "Thief's Downfall," which would wash away all spells and magical disguises. If an intruder was not authorized, the Gringotts Wizarding Bank above would directly activate the defense mechanism.
Behind the never-ending water curtain was the "Goblin Prison" where Douglas and the others were being held.
Leos stepped off the magic mine cart and took a deep breath as he passed through the water curtain. Fortunately, the light pink ladies' wallet was still lying quietly in his coat, without any abnormalities… As for the two Heliopaths, they had already walked to the door, touching the metal gate and communicating with the internal guards to open it.
The old goblin breathed a sigh of relief – the last checkpoint had been successfully passed.
As a secret prison in the core of Gringotts, the security measures here were already quite strict. With the increase in the number of "prisoners" in recent months, the Goblin Elder Council had additionally dispatched personnel to ensure everything was foolproof.
Leos and the two Heliopaths walked through the gate toward the inside, secretly counting the number of guards wearing scarlet uniforms.
The magical torches around them had all been lit, and all the "prisoners" were gathered in the center of the vault, including Douglas, the former director of the Venture Capital Department, his deputy, Boggo, and the other core managers of the Venture Capital Department, mostly responsible for various fields of work in Gringotts' Venture Capital Department, loyal elites of the Douglas faction.
Of course, there were also "interns" Garrivick and Serkins, who had been caught in the crossfire.
Floating in front of all the goblins was an execution decision directly signed by the Goblin Elder Council, covered with thirteen flamboyant italic signatures, each flowing with a faint magical glow.
Douglas only glanced at the execution order before looking at the old goblin standing not far in front of him, calmly asking.
"So, does it end here?"
In recent days, he had imagined countless times how to persuade the Elder Council, how to maneuver in the subsequent desperate situation, how to expose the crisis that Gringotts was about to face, and how to sound the alarm with his last voice...
However, Douglas only received this secret execution decision.
Obviously, those old guys in the Gringotts Goblin Elder Council would not give him this opportunity.
The deputy director of the Venture Capital Department, who had lost almost a circle of weight in recent months, glanced at the parchment in front of him again, frowned, closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and said softly, as he had predicted in his mind.
"Respected Elder Leos, I accept all the punishments of the Elder Council... However, I hope you can give me fifteen minutes to hear me report some conclusions that the Venture Capital Department has summarized during this period. Even if it's—"
"As your former student and deputy, my last request..."
"Unfortunately, time is limited."
Leos grinned and shook his head regretfully, "Besides, I don't think you can provide much useful information, so for the rest of the time, why not listen to this old guy's nagging one last time?"
Speaking of which, Leos turned his head and glanced at the two goblin executioners standing beside him.
The two Heliopaths exchanged glances, then nodded and said in a muffled voice.
"At most ten minutes, that's the requirement of the Grand Elder."
"Ten minutes? No need for that long, actually just a few words."
Leos waved his hand, leaning on his cane, and walked to Douglas, looking at the middle-aged goblin he had personally promoted and cultivated, with a hint of reluctance and complex expression in his eyes.
"What you want to say is nothing more than a run crisis, a wrong entry point, a doomed failure, a financial war that will drag Gringotts into an abyss... Let me think, maybe there's some wizard conspiracy, the stupidity and corruption of the non-magical government... Oh, right, and the greed and madness of the Elder Council, ha..."
Leos chuckled, and his skinny fingers poked at the roll of parchment floating beside Douglas.
"I already know all of this, even earlier than you... If I had to say, it was roughly four or five months ago, yes, your judgment is correct... The goblins are heading towards destruction..."
"Therefore, those guys in America chose to betray us, to lick the boots of the wizards, and actively surrender to the Magical Congress of the United States, hoping to have the opportunity to become the second house-elf – after all, we still have some merit in accounting and building magical weapons, don't we..."
The old goblin elder twisted an ugly smile on his wrinkled face and continued.
"Goblins are ultimately no match for wizards. This era already belongs to humans. Whether the non-magical world or the magical world controls this world, it may be difficult for us to have a foothold – a few hundred or a few thousand years later, all magical creatures will be reduced to animals, just like the Veelas who are kept in captivity, or the dragons who have become beasts."
"Is this the idea of the Elder Council, the last desperate gamble..."
Douglas laughed loudly with a sarcastic expression on his face, his eyes filled with disappointment.
"Yes." Leos nodded calmly, his gaze sweeping over the goblins around him, "Only traitors will betray Gringotts and the interests of the goblins, betray the Elder Council, betray Gringotts, and defect to a certain mixed-blood little Veela, using all kinds of costs that goblin traditions cannot accept, to continue the existence of goblins, and you... are the only remaining traitors I found in Gringotts."
The old goblin's voice was not loud, however, with Leos's words, the entire vault instantly fell silent.
Perhaps the two Heliopaths, as executioners, did not understand the meaning of Leos's words for the time being, but these elite goblins who had been trained in the Venture Capital Department for decades could vaguely hear the deep meaning in Leos's words.
Especially, it seems that there is also that silver-white shadow named Elina Kaslana, the beginning of everything.
"Teacher, we are about to be executed..."
After a long silence, Douglas shook his head and said slowly.
As the entire vault suddenly fell into silence, the two executioners finally noticed something wrong, and they tightened the long scythes in their hands, looked cautiously at the goblins standing not far away, and walked over quickly.
"Elder Leos, time is up, step back..."
"There is no eternal existence in this world, every living being has the day of passing away, no one can be an exception. But... for you, it's not today."
Leos shook his head, revealing a painful smile, and groped out a pink ladies' wallet from his arms, a wave of magical fluctuations rippled out.
"You know, this Muggle bag cost me thirty silver Sickles..."
"Damn it! Leos, what do you want to do?!"
The faces of the two Heliopath goblins changed, and flames suddenly rose on their bodies, and they flew forward quickly.
However, before the executioners could get close, Elder Leos turned around, opened the light pink ladies' wallet, shook it to the side, his eyes seemed to be burning with two hot flames.
"Fulfill your promises, you devils of destiny! Help me take these children out!"
The next moment, along with several dazzling magical beams, and clear and loud spells.
"Obliviate!"
"Impedimenta!"
"Stupefy!"
Several wizard figures appeared in the vault deep in Gringotts, led by a young man with wavy golden hair, wearing a robe the same blue as forget-me-nots, with a hearty smile.
"Oh dear, I didn't expect there to be this kind of mutated goblin that breathes fire. My next book will definitely be a hit..."
The wizard said with a joking smile, while casually raising his wand, pointing it flexibly at the Heliopath rushing over on the right.
"Obliviate!"
