Mysterious Journey

Chapter 517: A Wizard's Solution

Regarding Aileen and Grindelwald's arrangements in the Soviet Union, Dumbledore didn't participate much.

One small reason was that the economic planning wasn't exactly the old wizard's forte. The more Dumbledore learned about Muggle financial markets, the more he found the subject complex and profound, best left to experts.

Of course, the bigger consideration was that the main executors of the entire "Destined Rise" plan were the former Saints. As the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the hero who defeated the dark wizard Grindelwald, and the guardian deity of the magical world, it wasn't appropriate for him to appear and get too involved.

However, despite his limited involvement, Dumbledore kept an eye on their movements in his own way.

Sure enough, during a routine inspection some time ago, Dumbledore discovered that a large sum of money had disappeared from the underground vault. After careful questioning, he only learned that it had ultimately been delivered to the Ukrainian Muggle government.

Combined with Aileen and Grindelwald's frequent outings since the Christmas holidays, and the increasingly busy correspondence... if Dumbledore still didn't realize something was up, he would have been sold out by this old and young generation of dark wizards.

"Aileen, don't blame Gellert... he's never been good at lying to me."

Dumbledore glanced at the white-haired ball of fluff who kept glancing at Grindelwald, shook his head, and said gently.

"And you don't need to hide this from me. Although Hogwarts has never been particularly well-off, that wealth was originally an unexpected windfall. If it's being used to help others, whether wizards or Muggles—perhaps the school board would care about these things, but as far as I'm concerned, as long as it doesn't affect Hogwarts, these acts of kindness are extremely precious."

As long as it doesn't affect... Hogwarts?

Aileen's eyebrows twitched almost imperceptibly. She glanced at Grindelwald, whose expression didn't change, indicating that he also didn't find Dumbledore's answer problematic.

The magical world is, after all, a cut above...

Even Albus Dumbledore has a sense of priority... disasters caused by magic are handled by wizards, while natural and man-made disasters in the non-magical world are Muggle affairs - if they are willing to help, then that's extremely precious kindness?

In that case, the follow-up handling of Chernobyl might also have some of that factor involved.

"So, Professor Dumbledore, what are your plans?"

Aileen lowered her eyes, tidying up the parchment in her hands while casually asking in a soft voice.

Just like the worldview that Dumbledore and Grindelwald had gradually formed over the long years, perhaps in a few decades, Aileen would gradually become a mature wizard, just like Harry and Hermione in the future.

But before that, as a transmigrator, she had only been in contact with the magical world for less than four months. The vast majority of Aileen's memories were still shaped by a Muggle perspective and values.

From the results, it seemed that everything wasn't greatly affected.

But Aileen knew in her heart that in some subtle and more fundamental aspects, she was different from the two old men—perhaps sooner or later, the two sides would end up on opposite sides because of this difference in foundation.

"I have some ideas, but I need to discuss them with Mr. Newt Scamander."

Not noticing the girl's hidden thoughts, Dumbledore said gently, "The land around Hogwarts is ultimately limited. The current size of the vegetable garden is already the limit. Expanding it further would be a bit unseemly—if my idea works, it could not only solve some of the food production problem, but also solve the transportation problem."

"You mean... Undetectable Extension Charm?"

(For details, reply "Happy New Year")

Aileen nodded thoughtfully.

Before her transmigration, the first film of *Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them* had just been released, and Newt Scamander's magical suitcase left a deep impression on people, looking like a space treasure from immortal cultivation stories. In fact, the "Extension Charm" is not an especially rare spell.

Most wizards' suitcases have this spell cast on them. For example, Hogwarts school trunks and wizarding travel trunks sold in Diagon Alley come standard with capacity increase or extension functions, with prices ranging from five galleons to hundreds of galleons.

These spells not only increase the internal dimensions of an object while keeping the external dimensions the same, but also make the item lighter.

However, existences similar to Newt Scamander's suitcase are still quite rare—it not only provides each magical creature with an exclusive habitat, but each piece of land also has its own independent natural environment and weather conditions. This can't be done with a simple Undetectable Extension Charm.

"That's right! But the release of this type of charm is strictly regulated. I will later submit a complete application to the International Confederation of Wizards, specifying the scope of application, specifications, and the source of the land inside..."

"Land... source?" Aileen raised her head curiously. "Aren't those spaces created by magic?"

"Yes, and no."

Dumbledore shook his head and said softly.

"Then let me explain it simply. Professor McGonagall should have told you, magic cannot create something from nothing. The Undetectable Extension Charm only expands the size of a fixed space, like blowing up a balloon—but the land, lakes, wind, rain, sunlight... actually come from the natural environment around us. Do you understand a bit?"

Aileen thought for a few seconds and nodded slowly.

"In other words, the essence of the Space Extension Charm is actually a form of folding existing space... rather than adding a new area, it's actually cutting and pasting external space... but this may need to be viewed from a more macro perspective of spatial changes... rather than changes in a single area..."

"???"

The smile on Dumbledore's face stiffened slightly, as if he hadn't heard Aileen's words, and he continued with an unchanged expression.

"In short, this involves extremely profound magical knowledge, which not only includes Charms, but also Transfiguration, Alchemy, and even some Herbology and Astronomy... it's not something a student can accomplish..."

"Therefore, leave this matter to Albus and me for the time being. Take a break and rest."

Grindelwald grinned, raised his arm, took Dumbledore by the shoulders, and said with a smile.

"Besides, as far as we know, Aileen, you haven't even had time to unwrap the Christmas gifts your friends sent you, have you? That won't do..."

"Well, I've been very busy these days, and I haven't had time to unwrap the Christmas gifts. But..."

Aileen nodded, a hint of suspicion flashing in her lake-blue eyes, and asked softly.

"Why would you two old men, who can't enter the girls' dormitory, know the status of the pile of gifts I have by my bed?"

Grindelwald: !!!

Dumbledore: !!!
