Mysterious Journey
Chapter 570: Devil
April 20th, 1992, Monday.
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Great Hall.
This was the first day after the end of the Easter holidays. According to past practice, the festive decorations that had been arranged in the Great Hall and the school castle would not disappear immediately; they would only be taken away in advance by the house-elves after this day was over.
However, when the young wizards walked into the Great Hall, yawning and bleary-eyed, they found that the decorations in the entire hall had been completely cleared, replaced by the grand and solemn flags of the four Houses that only appeared at the beginning of the school year.
The entire faculty and staff had already sat neatly at the end of the long table. Seeing Erina and several little witches enter the hall, "Albus Dumbledore", who was sitting in the very center of the faculty seats, grinned and winked at the girl with a smile.
At the other end, Professor "Otto Apocalypse" looked even more silent than usual, his gaze fixed on the Gryffindor's gold and red House flag, as if he was thinking about something. Erina's eyes flickered. It seemed that the reversal regarding Peter Pettigrew, and what happened last night, still had a considerable impact on the old man's heart.
After all... that was the righteous Gryffindor.
In addition to the two old wizards, the professors at the faculty table all looked exceptionally solemn. Professor Snape, sitting next to Professor McGonagall, looked even gloomier than usual, emanating an aura that discouraged anyone from approaching him. His gaze wandered between the Gryffindor table, not knowing if he was looking at the Weasley twins or searching for Harry.
In any case, Professor Snape was one of the key targets to be closely guarded today. After all, as the trial progressed, Erina worried that the Half-Blood Prince might suddenly lose control and cast a curse at Peter Pettigrew.
Besides this, she wondered if the Ministry of Magic and the goblins would cause any unexpected variables—
Erina quietly pondered, repeatedly simulating and deducing in her mind whether there were any variables that could cause adverse consequences that had not been considered, and, in the worst case scenario, whether the now renamed "Hyperion" space carrier could jump to Hogwarts in the first place, forming a powerful local firepower blockade.
Just then, Dumbledore suddenly stood up from the faculty table, attracting everyone's attention.
"The Easter holiday is over," Dumbledore said calmly, looking at everyone. "According to the school's teaching plan, everyone should continue your pleasant and fulfilling learning time normally starting today, but..."
He paused, his gaze, hiding a bit of mischievous pleasure, lingered among the students whose morale had plummeted, and the warm and kind smile on his face did not change at all, as if he was enjoying this youthful and innocent trouble.
"Cough!" Professor Otto Apocalypse let out a somewhat abrupt cough.
"But..."
Dumbledore glanced at the old wizard sitting at the end, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, and continued unhurriedly.
"Due to some unexpected circumstances, I have to apologetically inform everyone that this morning's classes have been temporarily cancelled..."
"Just yesterday, a wizard who had long been thought to be dead reappeared at Hogwarts. His name is Peter Pettigrew, a former recipient of the Order of Merlin, First Class. Whether you know him or not, the entire magical world will hear of this name from today onwards, because he almost changed the course of the entire world."
"Accompanied by his 'resurrection', the truth of many major magical events that were once definitively concluded or suspended has begun to surface—each of which is an extremely egregious conspiracy, sufficient to subvert our existing beautiful and peaceful lives."
In the whispers of the students, Dumbledore paused for a few seconds, unmoved, and continued.
"The Ministry of Magic may not want me to tell you these things. After all, you are still young, and those conspiracies that occur at the level of the magical world and Hogwarts seem to be far away from you. However, I firmly believe that being on the right path, understanding what is right, is far more meaningful than mastering a few more spells and getting a few more points on exams."
"Therefore, in my opinion, this is an extremely important and profound life lesson. I hope that everyone can learn something from witnessing everything, not to blindly follow, not to easily believe, to stand firm, and not to let hatred blind your reason. After you finish breakfast, please go to the Quidditch pitch under the leadership of your respective prefects—to observe this public trial jointly witnessed by Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic, and the wizards of the entire magical world."
Looking around at the little wizards who looked excited, Dumbledore smiled slightly.
Undoubtedly, for these little guys who haven't experienced too many hardships and social pressures, conspiracies, disasters, betrayals... these are still too far away from them. In the children's world, the best news is not having to go to class.
However, this time they were a little too happy too soon.
Looking at the students who were whispering to each other, almost about to celebrate, "Dumbledore" smiled kindly.
"By the way, after this trial day, all students must write a reflection paper of no less than 2000 words… Among them, sixth and seventh-year students will have their word count doubled, and they will be submitted to the House prefects next Monday. Just to add, some of your parents will also arrive at the school in a while, and we will remind the parents to tutor you on the content of your reflection papers."
"Oh, no..."
"Professor Dumbledore, you've changed. You weren't such a demon before!"
"I want to study, study! Study!"
Accompanied by the cries rising and falling throughout the Great Hall, the smile on Dumbledore's face became even brighter. The old wizard took a deep breath, raised his hands as usual, and clapped his palms gently, "Well then, let's begin breakfast."
…
On the other side, London, the British Ministry of Magic.
The Department of Magical Law Enforcement is the largest department in the Ministry of Magic, and also the most important of the many departments of the Ministry of Magic, occupying the entire second floor of the Ministry of Magic headquarters.
In fact, strictly calculating the actual space, it is almost equivalent to the sum of other departments.
The entire Department of Magical Law Enforcement includes the Auror Office, the Improper Use of Magic Office, the Muggle Artefacts Office, the Magical Law Enforcement Squad, the British branch of the Wizengamot, the Wizengamot Administration, the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Products… It is equivalent to a combination of police, military, and judicial departments.
Following the elevator to the entrance, through two heavy oak doors, you can see the busy Auror headquarters.
Further inside are the Magical Law Enforcement Squad, the Improper Use of Magic Office, and other departments. Each department's room has rows of filing cabinets on both sides that are almost overflowing, and it is clear that working here is not an easy task.
However, at this time, most of the wizards had stopped their work and gathered in the corridor and the middle of the hall, looking at the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, standing at the elevator entrance, and Amelia Bones, the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, beside him.
Cornelius Fudge's face was livid, he was holding a letter in his hand, and he exuded a kind of unprecedented murderous aura.
