Mysterious Journey
Chapter 385: The Unfamiliar Eagle Ring
Regarding the gourmet food section, Aileen didn't rush to explain.
Some things, no matter how much you describe them in words, are not as intuitive as seeing and experiencing them firsthand.
Therefore, after simply instructing the lunch process for today, Aileen, as Dumbledore had instructed, accompanied the Lovegood family on a tour of the campus—guided, of course, by Xenophilius Lovegood.
In England, almost all adult wizards graduated from Hogwarts.
For the vast majority of wizards, Hogwarts is like a second home, a place filled with fond memories.
Therefore, even after leaving the school for more than a decade, Xenophilius Lovegood still clearly remembered the various passages in the castle and how to get to various places after returning to Hogwarts Castle once again.
"This is the staircase leading to Ravenclaw Tower. Your mother and I are both from this house."
Standing at the top of a long, winding staircase, Xenophilius Lovegood gently stroked the eagle-shaped bronze knocker that was identical to the one in his memory, and continued nostalgically.
"Ravenclaw is the most intelligent and open-minded house. We don't have any hidden measures. Whoever knocks on the door, the eagle will ask you a question, and if you can answer it correctly, you will be allowed to enter."
"What if you answer wrong?" Luna asked curiously.
"Then you just have to wait for someone else to answer. It's not uncommon for a dozen people to stand at the entrance of the common room, trying to answer the question of the day together. But at least you can learn something that way. That's Ravenclaw, understand?"
Xenophilius Lovegood shrugged, his eyes full of memories of his old school days.
"But don't worry, the questions are simple, at least your mother and I have never been blocked outside the common room."
"Yes, I understand." Luna said seriously, a hint of excitement appearing on her face. "It's kind of like the riddles we usually play, right, Dad? Hogwarts is a really interesting place."
"That's right, why don't we have a competition and see who can answer the eagle's question faster?"
Xenophilius Lovegood nodded happily, looking at Luna gently—as for the silver-haired little wizard standing behind them, he simply ignored her. After all, Hufflepuff House has never been good at using their brains.
Without a doubt, Ravenclaw's common room was Xenophilius Lovegood's first choice. As an "Eagle," he could find his way back to Ravenclaw in Hogwarts Castle even with his eyes closed.
The only thing that bothered him was that, for some reason, a row of light blue velvet sleeping bags hung on the wall of the corridor below the stairs, and each one seemed to be marked with a name on a small piece of paper.
Hmm, a new game for those Ravenclaw students?
Xenophilius Lovegood shook his head in confusion, withdrew his gaze, and reached out to gently knock on the old, smooth wooden door in front of him, just like he did when he was still in school more than a decade ago.
The eagle's beak opened immediately, but instead of making a bird call, it said in a gentle, musical voice:
"A room contains a certain number of Cerberuses and phoenixes at the same time. There are forty-six heads when counted from above, and seventy feet when counted from below. How many Cerberuses and how many phoenixes are there in the room respectively?"
"???"
The expression on Xenophilius Lovegood's face froze, and he blinked his eyes slightly comically.
What kind of strange question is this?
In his memory, he seemed to be seeing this type of question for the first time.
Okay, although the eagle's questions have always been strange, usually the eagle would ask some more poetic questions, such as—"Where do lost things go," "Which came first, the phoenix or the fire," "When brewing an unknown, highly corrosive potion, what material should be used for the stirring rod"...
And for some reason, this question always gave Xenophilius a hateful feeling full of malice.
Xenophilius Lovegood seemed to vaguely understand the meaning of those light blue sleeping bags in the corridor downstairs. It was not easy for these Ravenclaw students now.
Facing the suddenly unfamiliar eagle ring, Xenophilius Lovegood frowned and began to try to imagine the scene described by the eagle ring.
"Heads and feet, hmm, a large room with phoenixes and Cerberuses..."
"Phoenixes, Cerberuses, forty-six heads..."
At the same time, Luna also repeated the eagle's question in a low voice, while counting on her fingers and thinking seriously.
Before the Lovegood father and daughter could sort out their thoughts, Aileen's voice came from beside them.
"Thirteen phoenixes and eleven Cerberuses."
"Correct answer." The eagle said gently, and the wooden door rotated open.
Since it was during class time, the Ravenclaw common room was empty, and the entire house environment was filled with an ethereal atmosphere. Elegant arched windows opened on the walls, draped with blue and bronze silks.
The ceiling was domed and painted with stars, and the dark blue carpet below was also covered with stars. There were tables, chairs, and bookshelves in the room, and in the alcove opposite the door stood a white marble statue of Rowena Ravenclaw.
Next to the statue was a door, which Xenophilius Lovegood knew led to the dormitory at the top of the tower.
However, he was not in the mood to continue introducing Ravenclaw's common room now.
Just like all Ravenclaws, their curiosity about unknown new knowledge far outweighed everything—even though Aileen had given the correct answer, he still didn't understand the "knowledge" of the question itself, which was undoubtedly quite terrible.
"Why? I mean, this is just an answer, right..."
Xenophilius Lovegood turned to look at Aileen standing behind them. "If possible, could you tell us how you answered this question so quickly?"
"It's very simple, because I came up with this question."
Aileen shrugged and explained softly with a calm expression, "There are many detailed solutions. If I have time, I may open a separate section in *The Quibbler* to explain some issues in this area. As for now, because of time constraints, it may not be an appropriate occasion. Because..."
After a slight pause, Aileen glanced thoughtfully at the bronze eagle ring in front of her.
Thinking about it carefully, purely numerical problems were still too boring, and as time went on, it was not conducive to the campus experience of Ravenclaw students. Perhaps she should find a way to help the eagle ring enrich its question bank.
"By the way, Mr. Lovegood, I have a rather interesting idea. Are you interested in hearing it?"
Aileen glanced at Xenophilius Lovegood, whose face was filled with a desire for knowledge, and the corners of her mouth rose slightly.
She suddenly realized a problem: if she wanted to win over the Lovegood family, updating the bronze eagle ring's question bank would undoubtedly be the easiest thing to generate a sense of accomplishment and interest for them.
In fact, many mathematical problems can be transformed into more interesting short stories.
For example, once upon a time, there was a barber...
