Mysterious Journey

Chapter 22: Odds and Ends Before Departure

"Huh? Did you hide something inside your clothes?"

Bennet suddenly noticed that the silver-haired loli's chest was bulging, as if something was stuffed inside.

"Ah? Right, that parchment hidden behind the picture frame..."

Following Bennet's gaze, Elena looked down at her chest and suddenly remembered the old parchment filled with small writing that she picked up in Dumbledore's office that afternoon. Because of the series of events that followed, she almost forgot to open it and see what was inside if Bennet hadn't mentioned it.

"I'm not sure, but I guess it's nothing more than spells, potion recipes, or some kind of literature record."

Elena shook her head, saying as she took out the yellowed parchment from her clothes, curiously unfolding it for a glance.

The first thing that caught her eye was a huge serpent-like winding 'S' shaped emblem, which looked a bit like the Slytherin House symbol, but even more ancient and mysterious. Below this emblem, several slightly faded strange imprints were crowded together.

Further down, there was a dense row of text, with the opening sentence being:

[This land registration document hereby certifies that the great Slytherin family shall forever enjoy the property rights to the following land. Registered by Salazar Slytherin...]

"Land registration certificate?!"

Elena's little hand trembled, and she swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

Like most countries in the world, the UK implements a property registration system. Land in the UK can be registered in the form of absolute ownership, limited ownership, possessory ownership, or valid leasehold ownership.

Land registration is actually the registration of land and its buildings, that is, real estate or immovable property registration. For land bearing buildings, in accordance with the principle that buildings belong to the land and follow the land, the land ownership certificate and the attached parcel cadastral map shall specify the information in both text and graphics.

Elena didn't even need to read the text in detail, the familiar castle building drawn at the bottom of the parchment was enough to explain everything. The light parchment seemed to become scorching hot and heavy in an instant.

"Elena? What's this?"

Bennet's voice seemed to come from a distant place, awakening the silver-haired loli whose brain was in a blank state.

Elena shuddered, hastily folded the stack of yellowed parchment in her hand, and stuffed it back into her chest, she even felt her heart was about to jump out.

What to do?! What to do?!

She accidentally took away the land deed of Hogwarts?!

"It's nothing... just a very powerful, very powerful magic spell."

Elena took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, and answered in a slightly trembling voice.

"..."

Bennet silently glanced at Elena. Although he couldn't see the content clearly due to the angle, the complex diagrams and texts looked more like some kind of document or contract than a magic spell.

"Is it dangerous?" Bennet squatted down, his brown eyes meeting Elena's gaze.

"Not really dangerous, but it is quite tricky."

Elena thought carefully, shook her head, and pleaded in a low voice, "Anyway, please pretend you didn't see this, Dad."

"Okay."

The man seriously confirmed the expression on the silver-haired loli's face, hesitated for a second or two, then relaxed his brow and nodded.

Standing up, Bennet walked to the door, took a stack of banknotes from the coat pocket on the hanger, and placed it in Elena's hand.

"By the way, I heard Professor McGonagall say that pounds can be exchanged for wizard money, so I specially withdrew a thousand pounds from the bank today."

"No need, Professor Dumbledore said that Hogwarts has a scholarship for every orphan, leave this money for Bran and them..."

Elena scratched her cheeks, and without hesitation, raised her hand, preparing to stuff the money back into Bennet's generous hand.

"I've already refused it for you, about the scholarship." Bennet said calmly.

"Huh? Are you stupid..." The silver-haired loli's eyes widened, she was preparing to rob Dumbledore, the hidden wealthy wizard, tomorrow.

A trace of tenderness flashed across Bennet's face, and his palm gently stroked the girl's smooth silver hair, "I can fully afford your school expenses, I don't want you to be ridiculed by your classmates in the new school for a little scholarship."

"But..."

"You are not an orphan, Elena!"

Bennet raised his voice, interrupting the little girl's complaint, and said in a deep voice.

Elena looked up, her lake-blue eyes reflecting Bennet's shadow. The man looked a little flustered, a little expectant, but more of it was the doting gaze like a father—just like the gaze of that hunched figure in her previous life, which Elena had been trying hard not to think about.

"..."

"I told you, don't always touch my head."

After a few seconds of silence, the silver-haired loli shook her head unhappily, turned around, not letting the man see her expression.

"...Help me wash my hair later after cleaning up, it's greasy and uncomfortable."

"Dad."

............

The next day, before dawn, Elena had already climbed out of bed.

After washing up a little, the girl walked towards the kitchen, rubbing her eyes as usual. To ensure that the other children could eat breakfast on time, she had to get up a little earlier to prepare it.

However, to her surprise, when she arrived, someone was already busy in the kitchen.

"Good morning, Elena."

Hearing the footsteps, Bennet turned around and greeted her with a smile.

"Heh~ Morning, Dad..."

The silver-haired loli rubbed her eyes, answering subconsciously with a yawn. As she spoke, the girl's dazed eyes slowly fell on Bennet's face, gradually focusing.

"Wait! Why did you get up? You were almost fully recovered, you should obediently lie back down!"

Elena's little face stiffened, she crossed her arms, pointed her finger at the door, and said angrily.

"Don't worry, I've fully recovered. It's all thanks to Professor McGonagall's help, to be precise, I've never felt so healthy."

Bennet laughed, saying as he flexed his arms, showing off his strong biceps. The thick and powerful arms were bulging with muscles, and the curves full of strength were enough to make most infatuated girls scream.

"Even if you're healthy, according to the agreement, the kitchen is my territory, get out, get out, get out!"

Elena rolled her eyes unmoved, pressing her hands against Bennet's back, forcefully pushing him out the door.

Although Bennet's cooking skills were not the common British dark cuisine, they were only slightly above the passing mark. Not to mention, since she took over the orphanage's meals, Bennet had hardly cooked.

"You should rest today, you just washed your hair last night, you'll get it dirty again if you fry eggs later."

Bennet raised his hand, wanting to habitually rub the little head in front of his chest, thought about it, and finally put it on the girl's slender shoulders, effortlessly turning Elena around, pushing her out of the kitchen.

"Besides, what will you do after you go to school, I have to practice first and find my feeling, right? Go back and put on your new clothes, and wait for the Hogwarts professor to come and take you shopping. I'm here, don't worry."

"No, what you make is really too bad..."

*Pa!*

Just as the two were still in a stalemate, a crisp sound came from the air outside the door.

"Sorry, it seems I'm a little early."

Dumbledore's gentle voice came from outside the door, "If you don't mind, would you like the children to try the breakfast prepared by the Hogwarts kitchen?"
