Mysterious Journey
Chapter 12: Three Small Requests
Alina raised her index finger, looking at Dumbledore with a grave expression, her tone particularly earnest.
The specific origins of wizards are now impossible to verify due to their ancient past. The concept of magic has existed since the dawn of human activity, but it is impossible to determine when humans first attempted to learn and master this supernatural power.
If we exclude mysterious Eastern legends, the earliest historical records of magic date back to around 2600 BC with the Egyptian pharaohs and their magicians. If we don't consider ancient Egypt and Babylon, the most ancient record in the magical world is the Ollivander family's claim of making wands since 382 BC.
Alina has always been skeptical of this claim because it invariably reminds her of those "thousand-year-old family businesses" that are ubiquitous in her past life.
In Europe, documented traces of magic didn't truly begin to appear until four years before Christ, after the birth of Jesus. As for the British Isles, the first traceable legendary wizard, Merlin, didn't emerge until around 500 AD.
However, regardless, magical creatures existed long before the establishment of human civilization. To be precise, if we classify human wizards as a type of magical creature, human magic is not particularly powerful.
House-elves, for example, can wield significant magic without wands, and they are considered relatively weak among magical creatures. Human wizards, on the other hand, experience a substantial reduction in power once they are separated from their "magical amplifier," the wand, and the cores of wands invariably come from parts of magical creatures' bodies.
Experience shows that most half-blood wizards are indeed more powerful than normal wizards. For example, Hagrid's incredible magic resistance and brute strength come from his giantess mother, and Fleur's exceptional magical talent is closely linked to her Veela grandmother.
However, humanity's attitude towards half-blood wizards (specifically, part-magical beings) has always been rather awkward: fear, repulsion, distrust, and a hint of envy… As seen in the original books, both Fleur and Hagrid were outliers, ostracized by their peers.
Alina didn't want to be treated like an animal in a zoo every day she went to school – the "Boy Who Lived" could enjoy that kind of treatment by himself.
"If that can't be guaranteed, I'd rather not eat... ugh..." The silver-haired little girl seemed to accidentally bite her tongue, making a muffled sound, and said vaguely, "I'd rather never learn magic... than come to this school."
"I can assure you that no one in the school other than myself and Professor McGonagall will know your identity. In fact, there have been many students like you at Hogwarts before, so you don't need to worry."
Dumbledore nodded, agreeing without hesitation.
He had expected the girl to make some strange and demanding requests. Even if Alina hadn't mentioned it, he would have proactively reminded her not to reveal her Veela bloodline.
In fact, if it weren't for Alina's desire to distance herself from the magical world, Dumbledore hadn't even planned to tell her about her Veela heritage in the first place.
"What else? I remember you said 'some,' right?"
Dumbledore smiled easily. Compared to Riddle, who had a heavier heart, a decade ago, Alina was clearly simpler and more straightforward. Aside from being a little willful, Alina was generally more willing to share her emotions and thoughts with others, and Dumbledore considered the little girl's gluttonous nature insignificant.
"Besides that, there's one more small request that might be a little bit troublesome. But for Professor Dumbledore, it's just a simple matter."
Alina blinked, gesturing with her left thumb and index finger while raising her second finger on her right hand.
"If possible, I would like to go to America as a publicly funded exchange student, at the latest, in the fourth or fifth year."
"Hmm… Go to America as an exchange student?"
Dumbledore's eyes showed a pensive look, he raised his eyebrows slightly, pondered for a few seconds, and said slowly.
"Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? That might be a little difficult. Usually, there aren't many exchange students between magic schools..."
"No, I'm not talking about a magic school."
Alina shook her head and said with a smile, "I'm talking about Harvard University, a Muggle-founded school. As far as I know, the Ministry of Magic has always had close ties with the British non-magical world. If it's Professor Dumbledore's request, the British Prime Minister will definitely agree."
"A Muggle school?!"
Dumbledore's bright blue eyes flashed with surprise, he frowned and looked at the little girl in front of him with a puzzled look, seemingly wanting to confirm from the expression on her face whether it was just a joke.
Alina restrained her smile, raised her head, looked directly into Dumbledore's eyes, and replied very seriously.
"That's right, just as I said before, the non-magical world has enormous potential, so someone must understand and learn all of this. In my opinion, in the next decade or so, it is very likely to become the place where the most non-magical knowledge emerges."
This was also the compromise that the girl had reached after thinking about it again and again. After all, according to the future timeline, since the Triwizard Tournament in the fourth year, Britain has obviously become an unstable place, and she is not interested in fighting to the death with a certain split-personality, noseless monster.
At the same time, since 1995, the Muggle world can be said to have officially ushered in the great wave of the Internet era. Almost all the global Internet companies that swept the world rose in this decade. This is also the largest capital reshuffle in the modern history of human civilization. The opening of the virtual world and the existence of the information explosion have made the word civilization truly begin to break away from the shackles of region and nationality.
Dumbledore didn't speak, falling into a strange silence. After a long time, he opened his mouth to break the silence.
"Is it very important?"
"Very important! It concerns the future coexistence of our magical and non-magical worlds. This may be the last chance for both sides to be equal, or even for the magical world to be in an absolutely dominant position."
Now that she understood the connection between herself and the magical world, Alina, who was born as a half-magical creature, naturally began to use the word "we" – after all, if the magical world was completely exposed a decade later, she didn't want to become a pitiful outcast hiding everywhere.
"I understand. I need to think about this a little more. Fourth year is still too early..."
Dumbledore had actually had this idea of studying the Muggle world for a long time, but this would be equivalent to using a wizard's magical potential as a gamble to exchange for some unknown knowledge.
"What if I can complete most of the Hogwarts curriculum in advance? I'm very smart, actually."
Seeing that Dumbledore seemed to be loosening up, the silver-haired little girl's eyes lit up, and she hurriedly stood up and said. Originally, she had only said this with a try-it-out mentality. She had even planned a long-term battle plan of going to the Headmaster's office every day to drink tea and chat after enrolling.
Looking at the confident Alina, Dumbledore couldn't help but chuckle, reached out and rubbed the silver hair on the top of the girl's head, and shook his head with a smile.
"The Hogwarts curriculum is not as easy as you think. How about this, if you can get the highest grade in every subject every year, I will help you find Fudge, um, the Minister of Magic, to discuss this matter."
"It's a deal! Professor Dumbledore, you're not the kind of person who goes back on their word, are you?"
Alina stretched out her little hand, pressed down on Dumbledore's right hand that was rubbing her head, and her eyes narrowed into a line with joy. Dumbledore was completely ignorant of the mysterious power of Eastern academic geniuses. Every student who can get through the purgatory-level [College Entrance Examination]副本 is at least comparable to "Miss Know-It-All" Hermione Granger.
What's more...
From an angle that Dumbledore couldn't see, a hint of slyness flashed in the silver-haired little girl's eyes.
Not to mention getting the highest grade in every subject every year, if her guess was correct, she could even become the eternal no.1 in the entire history of Hogwarts.
"Are those the only two things? As an old man, I can't remember too many requests."
After these few conversations, Dumbledore's relationship with Alina had obviously become much closer. The old man tapped the silver-haired little girl's forehead lightly, and said in a semi-joking tone.
"If you must say so, there's actually one more thing. Um, just consider it compensation for kidnapping me to Hogwarts. But it's about Professor McGonagall."
Alina bit her finger, tilted her small head, thought for a while, and said.
"What is it? If it involves Professor McGonagall, I can't guarantee that I can help you." Dumbledore raised his eyebrows and replied, shrugging his hands.
"It's a very simple thing... when reading the roll call, can you put my name (Alina·kasna) first?"
Although she seemed to be using a casual, cute, and spoiled tone, Alina's heart was actually very nervous, and her eyes carefully watched Dumbledore's expression.
Regarding time-travel and changes in the world line, there have been various science fiction speculations in her past life. Even in the Harry Potter series, there are props that can cause paradoxes, such as the Time-Turner.
And this time, this was Alina's small attempt to change the known world line. She wanted to see if the legendary world's inertia force of convergence really existed, and whether the so-called "Rock-Solid Hannah Abbott" would really change because of her existence.
"Just that? That's not a problem at all."
Dumbledore waited for a few seconds and found that Alina didn't intend to continue speaking, so he couldn't help but ask in surprise. In his opinion, this request was not even a proper request.
"Um, just that." The silver-haired little girl nodded with a smile - as long as she could confirm that there was no so-called world convergence force, it was enough.
Everything seemed to be getting more and more interesting.
