Mysterious Journey
Chapter 6: An Unexpected Parent-Teacher Conference
In her mind, Dumbledore should still be continuing his "Harry Potter Hero Training Game," with no time to spare for such a trivial matter as a willful little girl refusing to attend school.
Of course, she couldn't be blamed for this, after all, the movie "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" hadn't been released before she transmigrated. She couldn't have known that Dumbledore and Grindelwald, those two old rivals, had finally received official CP confirmation, let alone knowing that Grindelwald had said something extremely similar to her own words.
The most pressing dilemma facing Ellena now was how to break the silent atmosphere inside the cottage, which had been going on for almost half an hour.
Yes, since Professor McGonagall slammed the door and left, she and Benitez hadn't spoken a word.
Ellena sat at the end of the bed, head down, quietly playing with her fingers, while the priest focused intently on slowly eating his breakfast, as if meticulously licking clean the marrow from every last bone.
"Sigh. Are you planning not to speak from now on?"
Finally, Benitez sighed helplessly, put down the empty soup bowl he had already drunk clean, and took the initiative to break the silence.
"I'm sorry…" The silver-haired little loli raised her head, her lips moved slightly, and she said weakly.
For this man who had picked her up from the streets of London and brought her to the orphanage, patiently teaching her English communication as if teaching a deaf-mute girl, and clumsily raising her, even though Ellena was usually sharp-tongued, she had already regarded him as a father figure in her heart.
However, whether it was the magical world or the beginning and end of her transmigration, she could never bring herself to tell him everything as frankly as Benitez did.
In a sense, this was perhaps the greatest curse borne by transmigrators - forever carrying a secret that could not be told.
"Okay, it seems this is a much more complicated trouble than stealing dynamite from the stone workshop to blast fish in the lake."
Benitez wiggled his eyebrows comically, trying to make the topic seem less serious.
"More than a hundred times more complicated than that, and I didn't steal it, I borrowed it! I wrote down the orphanage's contact information and the purpose, and didn't I share half of the fish I caught with them in the end?"
Ellena puffed out her cheeks, she had always been bothered by this. It was just blasting fish, a basic operation of humanity using intelligence to hunt for food. The overreacting protection association even notified the police and security departments in the end.
That was the first and only time Benitez had gotten angry with her. At that time, she had even planned to run away overnight with her little quilt and little bag if things went wrong.
Sitting up, Benitez vigorously rubbed Ellena's little head, not continuing to argue with her about this issue. He knew very well that he was no match for his own sophist genius.
"Don't want to open it and take a look? This letter from the magic school."
Picking up the thick parchment envelope that Professor McGonagall had left in the room, Benitez reached out and handed it to the girl, asking gently.
There was no postmark on the envelope, and written very clearly on the front in emerald green ink was:
【Miss Ellena Kaslana, Small Compartment next to the Kitchen, Benitez Orphanage, Hard Stone Street, Lass Town, Scottish Highlands】
"No need, if you want to see it, just open it yourself. It's nothing more than the start date and the school supplies that need to be prepared. Anyway, I'm not going to school there."
Ellena took the thick envelope from Benitez's hand, her fingertips caressing the Hogwarts emblem back and forth, casually throwing the letter back into Benitez's arms, shaking her head, and secretly complaining.
—All those unscrupulous authors who write Harry Potter fan fiction in my previous life, almost every one of them uses the content of the letter to pad out their word count. I can recite what's written inside without even opening it—
"However, I suggest you don't open it."
Halfway through her sentence, Ellena glanced at the empty bowl Benitez had placed on the bedside, raised her eyebrows, and thought for a moment before adding.
"Forget it, it doesn't matter anymore now, they shouldn't send any more letters."
"Why?"
Benitez frowned, asking confusedly.
"Because the magic world uses owls to deliver letters, otherwise where do you think I caught so many Scottish round-faced plump chickens you ate before?"
The silver-haired little loli spread out her hands, answering with a matter-of-course expression.
"Oh, God."
Hearing Ellena's answer, Benitez covered his forehead with one hand, feeling a throbbing in his temples.
He instantly understood why that Professor McGonagall had suddenly flown into a rage and slammed the door after hearing the invitation to have a meal.
Anyone would be furious if that happened to them. This child was becoming more and more lawless.
The man's face darkened. "Ellena, come here! We need to have a good talk."
He felt it was necessary to have a good discussion with this problem child about what constitutes basic social etiquette. He had previously thought that Ellena would restrain herself and mature a lot after the last fish blasting incident, but there was absolutely no change.
"I won't! I'm not stupid~"
Glancing at Benitez, whose face was so gloomy that it was about to drip water, Ellena cutely stuck out her tongue, making a face.
"Oh, suddenly remembered, there are no vegetables in the kitchen, I have to go to the market to buy some."
Without waiting for Benitez to explode, the girl supported herself with both hands, jumped off the bed nimbly, waved her hand, and ran out quickly without looking back.
She didn't want to be caught and lectured by Benitez for an entire morning again, like last time.
"This girl..."
Benitez shook his head helplessly, watching the silver-haired little girl run away like a startled rabbit.
Perhaps, just as that Professor McGonagall said, this child had some kind of magical power on her.
Every time he wanted to properly educate Ellena, as long as the girl acted cute and coquettish, he would inexplicably soften, scold her a few words without much impact, and then let it go.
Not only him, but almost every time Ellena caused trouble, it seemed she received forgiveness extraordinarily easily - as if, no matter what she did, she would be forgiven.
Of course, it was also possible that, as those nuns in London said, he was indeed not suitable for teaching children.
"A... magic school?"
Benitez looked at the envelope Ellena had thrown back to him, his fingers hovering at the seal, as if what was in front of him was not a letter but a terrifying Pandora's Box.
Others might not know, but Benitez, who had watched Ellena grow up, knew very well. Ellena would absolutely not invest even a tiny bit of energy and time in anything she was not interested in.
As a child who was only less than eleven years old, but who could refute an adult wizard from the magical world until they were speechless through various means from the front, Benitez did not believe that Ellena was really as indifferent to the magical world as she showed.
After struggling back and forth for more than ten minutes, Benitez glanced at the empty bowl placed on the bedside and suddenly had an idea. If he didn't have a migraine because of the cold, would Ellena choose another way to refuse the invitation from that world?
After thinking carefully, Benitez recalled the way the silver-haired little loli's eyes lit up when he mentioned stewed owl soup. He sighed with some exhaustion. With that lawless little glutton's character, there was really no way to judge the real reason.
Benitez picked up the thick parchment envelope and once again solemnly looked at the somewhat strange emblem pattern on the envelope, as if some terrible monster would run out of it in the next moment.
After hesitating for a few seconds, the man gritted his teeth and flipped his wrist to shake open the letter.
【Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore (Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chief Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confederation of Wizards)
Dear Ms. Kaslana,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
Yours sincerely,
Minerva McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress】
Benitez tapped the letter lightly with his finger, looking thoughtfully at the ornate wooden chair in front of him that had been cast with a transfiguration spell. Maybe he should talk more with that Professor McGonagall.
At least he could feel the faint fear hidden behind the stubbornness when Ellena saw that Professor McGonagall standing up with a small wooden stick - however, this was somewhat similar to the shivering look she had after being discovered blasting fish before, only this time she was stealing other people's owls to eat.
However, just thinking of this, Benitez felt another dull pain in his head.
Roughly calculating, he knew that the entire orphanage had eaten at least ten "Scottish Round-Faced Plump Chickens" in the past week or so. Now that he knew about this, if Benitez really had the opportunity to meet Professor McGonagall again, he would naturally take the initiative to offer compensation.
"I wonder if pounds can be exchanged for wizards' currency. Hopefully, as Ellena said, the prices in the wizarding world will be a little cheaper."
Benitez sighed again as he said this. Although Ellena had made a lot of money for the orphanage over the years, the fines or compensation he had to pay because of her causing trouble were also not small.
Just then, a sound like a whip cracking suddenly came from outside the door.
Then there was a rhythmic knock on the door, and a familiar female voice came from outside.
"Mr. Benitez, I'm Minerva McGonagall. I'm sorry to bother you again. If possible, I would like to learn more about Miss Ellena."
The Deputy Headmistress McGonagall from Hogwarts?
Benitez raised the corners of his mouth, glanced at the letter in his hand, got out of bed, collected the dishes on the table to the side, casually grabbed a jacket and put it on, and answered without hesitation.
"Welcome, Ms. McGonagall. I also have some things I would like to ask you about, about Ellena and your world of wizards."
At the same time, Ellena, who was focused on fishing by the lake, suddenly felt a palpitation, as if - the terrible feeling she had in her previous life every time the school announced a parent-teacher conference?
